Yes that is correct. Remember to pay the fee to get the card also.

I don't remember why (if you posted) just remember once you activate your PR status you are no longer a resident of Canada. SO no more health care, do not use use the GST (if I remember right that comes out in Oct) if you get one. If you're continuing to work get your taxes switched over as a non resident.

and of course Congratulations!!!

Hey, I just paid the fee, thanks!

Not sure what you mean by "do not use use the GST".

I will not work in Canada after this week.

Thanks for your help @Ontarkie

I think it's called something different now. HST maybe,  it comes out 4 times a year.  I completely forgot you're not Canadian so it probably doesn't apply to you. If you did get one you would know it :)

Hey all,

It is now Sept 24 (3+ months after my interview) and I got the passport back in my hands (WOOT WOOT!) with attached temporary visa (valid until the expiration of my medical exam Nov 11).

I am planning to go to the US this weekend  for a quick day trip to activate the permanent residency and from what I understand they will stamp my passport.

With that, the validity of my PR will be one year until I get the actual "green" card, am I correct? Just trying to get some clarification.

Thanks

Congratulations!!!

Finally your wait is over.

My visa was regressed and they also did ask for some documents which I sent to them. Since today is the day when my visa category is available, I emailed them and they responded to me in the same generic email. CAEC also got updated to today. I guess I should keep an estimate of 2-3 months as well and just wait for their email ? I've my passports so they've to request for the passports

Good Afternoon,

Thank you for contacting us.

Your case will be reviewed by the Visa Unit.

As soon as the review is complete, the Visa Unit will advise of the next steps in order to continue processing the case.

While we cannot predict when the processing of your visa will be completed, please be assured that the Consulate and the State Department are aware of your concerns and will contact you as soon as the processing is complete.

We realize that these extended time periods cause frustration to many individuals, and we are sensitive to the fact that the purpose of the immigrant visa program is to facilitate legitimate travel to the U.S.  Nonetheless, the Consulate in Montreal, like all U.S. Embassies and Consulates, must adjudicate visas in accordance with the provisions of the law, and, in some cases, this involves extensive consular review and administrative processing.

We hope that this information is helpful in replying to your inquiry.

Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.
