@NikLR we made the plans 2 years ago for our wedding celebration, we could have never thought that the two things would have clashed so unbelievably hard.
There was no way to know and/or to reschedule

@NikLR honestly they should not have told me at the US consulate that it'd have only take few days to get the passport back, that was the biggest lie.

I understand and it sucks.

Today, more than 3 months after my interview and AP my status has finally been switched to ISSUED.

I still have not received any email or my passport, but that's already some good news.

I wish it would have been a month ago so our plans wouldn't have been screwed up..thanks US consulate...

Three months is really a long waiting time. I'm glad you finally got your visa issued.

Yea it's been way longer than we expected, but now we are almost done with the wait.

It seems like I'll be getting my passport back next Monday and we are planning to visit our families in Europe for a couple of months.

Do you suggest that we activate the green card before or after our trip?
I was thinking of doing it before so that my doctor's checkup doesn't expire but we don't really know what are the rule/guidelines in order to keep the green card valid after activation.

Could someone shed some light on the rules/regulations? Do we need to stay in the US for a certain period after we activate it? How does it work?

Would they send us a package with the passport that explains those sorts of things?

@NikLR maybe you would know how this works?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Do it before. If it's a green card right away then you can leave asap

@NikLR just to be 100% clear, you are suggesting to activate the green card and then leave for Europe, correct?

Are there advantages or disadvantages over doing one way or the other?

If you do it before then you don't have to worry as much about making sure you poe before the Visa expires.  When did you do your medical?

Hi,

I also want to share my experience here in montreal consulate...

had my interview with my family august 7, 2018 since then i was on AP, I submitted the additional documents they requested from my employer that changed their company name. They ask proofs that it is same employer. Aug 10, they received all the documents and our passports. August 13 my case was updated,Aug 14 udated again, then the last Update was Sept 18 and still on AP, any similar case?  Thanks😔

I did my medical in mid may so it'll expire in mid November.

What do you mean by " making sure you poe"?

You enter the USA and activate your visa.

Is your trip going to take longer than mid November?  Possibly could any other circumstances prevent you from entering by the time the visa expires? The visa expires 6 months from the date of the medical.  So if you enter the USA you will activate your visa, it becomes a temporary I-551 (aka green card) valid for 1 year, and you can then travel abroad without worrying about making sure you are back before the visa expires

Pay the new immigrant fee on ELIS before you activate and you should have a hard copy green card waiting for you in about a month or two after POE.

Hi you have your own thread.  I'm not sure the OP's situation is the same as yours.

Congratulation DD. Finally you are also getting the Passport back.

Just one thing, I got an email from Canadapost saying they picked up the packet and it reached me after 6 working days. I was really panick and tried all places to know the status as I was expecting I will get the passport next working day. Just a heads up. Please take Air tickets only after you get your passport in hand.

My status changed to issued on Aug 28th

Got visa in hand on 6th Sept

I reached FL on 8th Sept.

Hey all,

It is now Sept 24 (3+ months after my interview) and I got the passport back in my hands (WOOT WOOT!) with attached temporary visa (valid until the expiration of my medical exam Nov 11).

I am planning to go to the US this weekend  for a quick day trip to activate the permanent residency and from what I understand they will stamp my passport.

With that, the validity of my PR will be one year until I get the actual "green" card, am I correct? Just trying to get some clarification.

Thanks
