Hi @Lemonslice is there an easy way to contact them to ask for the passport back? I've tried calling and I've got no answer for a month.

Emailing I only get a general automated response like this:

The case is currently been reviewed by a consular officer. The adjudication process might take a little longer at this time since the U.S. Consulate General in Montreal is currently experiencing a considerable volume of cases to review. We are doing our best to process this application as fast as possible. The Visa Unit will inform you as soon as the review is complete and provide you further details regarding the status of this visa application.

We realize that these extended time periods cause frustration to many individuals, and we are sensitive to the fact that the purpose of the immigrant visa program is to facilitate legitimate travel to the U.S.  Nonetheless, the Consulate in Montreal, like all U.S. Embassies and Consulates, must adjudicate visas in accordance with the provisions of the law, and, in some cases, this involves extensive consular review and administrative processing.  While we cannot predict when the processing of your visa will be completed, please be assured that the Consulate and the State Department are aware of your concerns and will contact you as soon as the processing is complete.

We hope that this information is helpful in replying to your inquiry.

I'll take any help I can get

@NikLR I have asked via email for the passport back but they don't really give a specific answer.
What I wrote about is the copied/pasted email that I receive..Not personal or specific to my case.

I'd love for my passport back and send it back to them when they are done

the email is all you can do.  They may or may not send it back.  Sounds like a generic email for those in AP to be honest and no one has actually read your request as of yet.

yea, at this point I don't know if it's worth flying there and get my passport back!

I'm just at a loss and I can't believe how inefficient this process is.

They would mail it back to you if you were receiving it back.

It really is ineffecient.  Especially if you weren't aware of how strict the Consulate in Montreal is about domicile.  You're also not a Canadian citizen (but I assume you have work visa? PR status?) and that can make things a little more difficult as well.  Thankfully you're not from a high fraud country.

Hi @SSeb sadly we still got no news, I was about to email the consulate again!

Nice to hear you are getting yours back, so maybe I'll get some good news soon as well!

Thanks for letting us know, a gleam of hope is always useful!

Cheers and good luck

There is no direct way to contact the consulate for a general enquiry. My passport was lost for several days and Canada Post gave me a phone #. Unfortunately it takes you in circles. I looked for any way to get a hold of the consulate. There are some creative ways but I can tell you they do not take kindly trying to get a hold of them unless it's an absolute emergency. Fortunately my passport showed up and I didn't need to cancel my visa and passport.

I was in general AP (background check) for a couple of weeks. I noticed after they returned my email message they touched my case as there was an update on CEAC (date was changed). Shortly after they issued my passport.

I think generally they peak at your case after you make an enquiry. Montreal is known to get a little snarky if you put up too much of a stink about it taking too long. I've seen a few people on VJ make a congressional enquiry through a Senators office. While in BC I used Patty Murray - US Senator to deal with my spouse's SSN application. I think it would be reasonable to ask what is going on with your case but you may get the same response through the Senators office as you did via email.

I totally feel for what you are doing through. At the interview I was told I'd get my pp back in 3 days. I gave notice to my landlord and then AP happened along with Canada Post temporarily losing my passport. Fortunately I was able to extend my lease as they hadn't found another tenant. It's very stressful waiting for a decision like that. Good luck.

Hi @stikky sadly no.We are still waiting on my passport.

We have not yet heard anything from the US consulate about whether she might have to move, but we are hoping that it won't happen and that I just get the passport within the next weeks.

I'll update my situation here once I hear about it, we hope soon. Finger crossed

Today, more than 3 months after my interview and AP my status has finally been switched to ISSUED.

I still have not received any email or my passport, but that's already some good news.

I wish it would have been a month ago so our plans wouldn't have been screwed up..thanks US consulate...
