Hi guys. I am currently in the process of completing my AOS (I-184) and have a few questions.

Some background: I am a US citizen living in the UK (for the last 2 yrs and Ireland for the 2.5 yrs prior to that). I am planning on using a joint sponsor for my AOS

Questions:

  • Can I include my UK financial details (earnings and savings in the UK) on the form, or am I required to only provide details of current US savings? I will be transferring some of the money to the US, but that will not happen until closer to the time that we move.
  • Am I required to complete both forms I-184 AND I-184a?
  • Is my joint sponsor required to complete both forms I-184 AND I-184a?

Many thanks in advance!

You may want to have a joint or co sponsor especially if you will not be taking the UK job with you to the United States. They look at past income, but also look at current and future income. However, yes show your past income and assets.

You  as primary sponsor and petitioner only do an I-864.

Your joint or co sponsor submits I-864 or I-864A depending on the situation. If the sponsor will live in the same household as you and is a close relative, then they do I-864A and can combine income with you. If the sposor is not in the same household as you, then the sponsor does I-864.

See this post, Which I 864 Form Should You Use, as it explains it in great detail.

Good luck.
