Work permit autorization for OPT Student

Good afternoon!

I'm an international student who applied for work permit OPT / EAD card. My application was received by USCIS on June 8, however, I have not received any approval yet. Does anybody who sent the application by the end of May and beginning of June has already received the card? I feel sad because I got a job offer but the EAD card has not arrived yet and it was processed at Potomac Service.

Best regards

If you have a pending job offer, you can request an expedite on the EAD. The Potomac Service Center current processing date is March 23, 2018.  Without an expedite, you'll be waiting for a few months.

Thank you for your helpful answer! How can I expedite and does it cost a lot? What do you mean by current processing date is March 23 and how do you know about it?

Best regards

Thank a lot for your support! Do you remember in which month your OPT application was received?

Applied early July, received approval and physical card mid-October.

It's free to request an expedite. https://mypathtocitizenship.com/ead-expedite-process-getting-work-authorization-faster/

Worst case, they don't approve your expedite - there are no negative impacts on your application.

Current processing time is found here. https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/ You fill in your form (I765) and select the processing center (Potomac). Scroll down and see the current processing dates. This is approximate. If your case application date is earlier than the date listed, you can request assistance as your case is out of processing times. Currently, your case is within processing time and might take 2 more months without an expedite approval.

In 2017 I applied in mid Feb and received late May. Give USCIS full 90-120 days if you are not going to file an expedition.

If you're filing for an expedition, make sure to have your employer and school help you with the evidence.

Good luck

If you have a job offer, get it expedited right away. It's free.

Otherwise, they will keep your application on file FOREVER.

A friend of mine got his card after 7 months which way past the deadline to report. He ended up applying for the MS degree.
