AOS from K-1, USC spouse not interviewed

I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this experience? My husband and I had our interview today for his AOS from K-1 visa. When the interviewer called our number, he said "I just need him," so I went back to my seat and waited. It was about a 10 minute interview, my husband was just asked to verify some things on the form, asked when we were married (and if it was within 90 days of entry, which it was), asked what my date of birth is, asked if we have any children (we do have a son together), and asked the standard "are you a criminal?" questions (no to all).

My husband said he was just making check marks on his paperwork while they talked. He asked for copies of my husband's documents, and my husband told him he also had my original birth certificate, passport, etc. but he told him that since we went through the K-1 visa, all of that stuff had already been approved or reviewed (my husband can't remember which he said). The interviewer asked if he had any additional evidence of our relationship, and my husband said "yeah we have heaps" and started to open up & explain the packet of evidence we brought which had life/health/car insurance, joint bank statements, stuff from our travels together, lots of photos, etc. But the interviewer didn't look at any of it. He didn't ask for our son's birth certificate (my husband included a copy in the copies he gave the interviewer, though) or really any other documents.

When he was done with that, he told my husband "if all goes well, you'll hear something in 4-6 weeks." Then he walked my husband out and told him to have a good day. They never called me back at all.

Has this happened to anyone else? Any idea of what outcome to expect? From other people's experiences, ours just seemed odd.

Our interview was a little different, we were both present, but seemed to be very similar to what happened and what was asked during our interview. My husband (from Australia) was asked all the questions and I (the US citizen) just sat and listened to him answer them.

Our CO was very difficult to read and didn't give us any information on how the interview went but from what I heard from our local office, that was normal. We found out my husband was approved 2-3 weeks later.

Good luck!

Thanks for sharing about your experience! Gosh, 2-3 weeks seems so long :( We have a 6 month old and another on the way now, so we're eager to find out whether he has been approved.

There is a forum for my local office which was great to follow because everything that happened at our interview seemed to be pretty standard which helped ease our anxiety.

If we hadn't been told what to expect I would have assumed it did not go well. Haha. But it did :)

Good Luck!

I got approved without an interview, so it sounds like they did a basic check and you will be good to go. Don't worry... they like Aussies...

I was in the room while my husband was interviewed for his AOS. While the interviewer did ask me a few questions, most of them were directed to my husband.  I don’t think there’s anything you should be concerned about.

Thanks! We hope you're right about that, and I feel that if they needed to know more they probably would have spoken to me and taken a look at the evidence we brought. The IO literally said "Do you have anything else you'd like to show me?" and my husband said "What do you need to see? we brought heaps of stuff, life insurance... (as he started to flip through the stack of stuff we brought" and then he cut him off and said "Nah, I don't need to see any of that. Just your birth certificate, passport, that kind of thing." My husband asked "do you need the original or copies (we had both)?" and he said "I can look at either," so my husband showed him the originals and also handed over a stack of the copies we made (which had both of our birth certificates and passports, our son's birth certificate, our photo IDs that has our address on it, and his SS card). It wasn't really what we expected which is what makes us nervous, but there is no reason we shouldn't be approved (no red flags, my income is more than enough to sustain our family of 3, no criminal background or previous marriages, nothing on the medical exam). Immigration is just a stressful process. Anyway, all that to say-we appreciate the reassurance!

Thanks for the reassurance! It was just strange to us that he didn't even want to talk to me, and didn't look at our evidence. We both would have felt more comfortable if we had been together at the time, even if he didn't speak to me at all. I guess we'll see. Still no update on the USCIS website, but it has only been a week. Hoping we don't have to wait too much longer...we have another baby on the way and my husband is anxious to start working.
