I think it's probably more prudent to send it back.  In some counties they have been known to call people who didn't show up on the posted date and demand to know why they weren't there.  Saves hassle and maybe future summons if you let them know you are not eligible.

You do have a point

I was summoned once, as a USC, I would love to do it, but I had two little kids at home & was pregnant at the time. Caring for kids under 12 was one of the excuses, so I ticked that off & sent it back. Sadly, I had not received any since. :)

<Tongue in cheek>  I wonder if you could call them, and tell them you'd LOVE to serve on a jury - but you are not a citizen yet.  Maybe they could call USCIS and expedite your case if they need jurors?????

I just got one today, and it is all done online here in Nevada. I of course am a USC so will go get my 40.00 a day to do my civic duty and send some criminal delinquent to the electric chair/ gas chamber/ hangman/ whatever their choice is now. I get summoned about every two years for some reason, both Federal and County. There should be a number to call and opt out with an automated system, just select I am not a USC. Or you can go online like I do, answer the questionnaire for eligibility and one of the first questions is are you a USC. as soon as you select NO, it will remove you from the pool of eligible candidates.

I got a jury summons about 6 months after I got my first green card. From what I remember all I had to do was go to the website listed on the summons and fill out a form stating I wasn’t a citizen, and it confirmed I didn’t need to attend.

Okay Guys, I am freaking out to the teeth at the moment. So I just got my daily alerts from USPS about incoming mails and i see a mail for JURY DUTY. I am not yet a citizen and my assumption is that I should not be getting such mails. Does it mean that I am registered on a Federal database as a USC or what? I am not about to play games about this because I know that is a deport-able offence.

Any ideas guys?

Calm down.  Pick up the mail.  There is a check box where they will ask if you are a US Citizen.  If you are not you simply check NO, and voila!  You'll be excused. Most jury questionnaires ask you to include your phone contact number.  This is so they can call you to inform you that you don't qualify for one reason or another.  If they do not contact you however and there is a court appearance date you better show up.  They will excuse you in live court when you tell them you are not yet a US Citizen.  It sounds like you're not very excited to sit on a jury.  My wife has become a US citizen and hopes to be picked.  She is very proud to be an American and now votes also.  After all, it's part of the American dream to participate in government.

My mother received the same thing and she is a green card holder. You can ignore( that's what my mom did) or you can fill out the questionnaire that you are not  US citizen. Nothing to worry about

VERY POOR ADVICE!  You should never ignore ANYTHING you receive in the mail from the government.  There is something to worry about.  Here are two examples:  1.)You could receive a summons to appear in court if you fail to reply.  2.)You could even be charged with Contempt Of Court.  Just open the letter and follow the instructions.  It's easy.

I did not give poor advice, I gave two options for the OP to choose from. You do not know what you are talking about. 1. The court did not summon my mom to court . 2. My mom was never charged for any contempt of court . Get your facts right. Why are you coming  for my response. I gave the OP what my mom did in the same situation and another option. I don't even think you read my response before you jump into conclusion. You didn't read the second option.

They can charge them with contempt of court for failure to respond to a jury summons in most jurisdictions. Just because one was not charged, or if they would even try to pursue a charge, does not mean it cannot happen. As an LPR, you want to avoid even a dropped charge as you have to disclose it for naturalization, if you so choose to pursue that option in the future.

I concur that it's (almost) never a good idea to ignore any summons from the government, especially when a simple letter or phone call can resolve the issue before it becomes a bigger pain in the...neck.

Do you know of any case of an LPR being summoned to court for ignoring a jury duty  summon. The reason I  ignored my mom jury duty summon is I knew it was sent to her by mistake.

Nothing to worry about that. I got the same Jury duty letter about 6 or 7 months ago. The letter includes a paragraph which gives you directions on how to opt out or decline the Jury duty participation if you are not eligible. I did it online and got a confirmation that I am not eligible for the Jury duty because I am not a U.S citizen yet. They sent those letters randomly. It is a pretty straightforward process to accept or deny it based on the candidate eligibility.

Not personally, but the consequences for not doing so are listed right on the jury summons.

Just because one was exempt from serving doesn't mean they are exempt from responding to the summons.

This does not address LPR ignoring jury duty summon. Thanks for your reply
