Hey!

I applied for my sons British passport, mother (myself) being a British citizen born there to British parents. My husband is the American. I submitted my birth certificate, marriage certificate and followed the application spot on.

However, today I got a response saying I need to send either my mothers birth certificate or my fathers. And my parents marriage certificate. My parents didn’t get married, does this seem Corrext they need my sons grandparents marriage liscnese? I don’t have one as I was born out of wedlock. But they’re both British.

Is mt my son not eligible because of this? I am getting quite upset with the thought of not having the same citizenship as my son as I’m not applying for American anytime soon. Please help! Thank you :)

If you were born in the U.K. and still have yoir British citizenship (most likely you do, it's a complex process to relinquish it) then you can automatically transfer citizenship without needing to prove your parents were British. British citizenship can only be passed one generation so your children's children won't automatically be British unless your child settles in the U.K. later in life and has children there.

That’s what I figured, but they’re asking my parents birth certificates and their marriage liscense which obviously doesn’t exist.

I am am going to give them a call

tommorrow. I just wanted to know if this was normal of them to ask, as they didn’t ask in my application. I am thinking they’ve made a mistake.
