I’m wondering if anyone has experienced something like this before. I’ve recieved someone’s social security number and permanent resident card, I have no idea who this person is. The documents were both mailed in care of “my name” at my address. The only thing I have in common with this person is that both him and my husbands country of birth is Egypt. My husband is currently on AP for his IR1 visa (DS5535) I’m worried there was a mix up between him and this persons documents. So far I’ve contacted everyone I can thing of DHS, DOS, NVC, USCIS, Embassy in Cairo, Senator and Social security office (where I returned the card once I recieved it). No departments seems to know what to do and seem to not even care, I have no idea what to do. Anyone have any idea what I should do?

I would send it back to USCIS with a letter saying you received it by mistake.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

That doesn’t solve the issue as to why my name is associated with this person. When I first recieved the ssn card I didn’t think much about it, I just reported it and handed it in the same day. After receiving the green card a month later I’m now worried there have been mix ups with cases. I feel like USCIS should have taken my complaint more seriously, when I called they said it’s basically not their issue and that my address being on the papers would probably mean someone I know gave this person my address to quote the USCIS representative “I don’t give my address to anyone I don’t trust but I don’t know what goes on in your household”. I may be over reacting but I feel like this is a major issue, families are being separated for month because of the system yet they’re getting addresses and names mixed up? And from a security perspective how many times has this happened and it not been reported? Sensitive information like that should not end up in other people’s hands.

Probably not many.......this isn't very common or we would see it a lot more often here.......anyway, I would email USCIS and get a written answer as to the current status of your case. Telephone information given by USCIS reps is not always accurate.  Your representatives in Congress CAN and WILL get the answer as to the current status of your case.

Good Luck.

Look I have been here in the US for almost two years now . I have.noticed a very weired thing . That if you use the phone and ask about something or want to get something done . Nobody seems to care . You have to go to them . Because it happened to me a lot . With the USCIS and 3 universities and the DMV . Nobody would look up information for you . I have to go myself and ask to talk to a supervisor or manager . The employee instantly will start to work . So I would go to the social security office and the USCIS if it's not far away from you . Because of both of their files got.mixed together either one of them can cause the other one a problem.
