I apologize if this has been asked, this is my first time and I've tried to look up around the forum and the processing times. I applied for K1 fiance visa on January 12th 2018 and it's been almost 8 months. Is it normal for me to not have received anything at all except the NOA1 as of now? We did use an immigration lawyer and they said they received nothing as well. Thanks for any possible help!

It would be helpful if you could fill in your timeline with the pertinent dates and beneficiary's country.

Are you the petitioner/USC?   I believe that you are now out of normal processing time, and therefore can call USCIS to initiate an inquiry.  You can also request assistance from your US congressperson/senator's office.  They are charged with helping their constituents in matters of immigration, and can file an inquiry on your behalf.   According to some info found on VJ, posted by a former adjudicator, USCIS is bound by regs to respond to congressional inquiries.  If you qualify by dates, it is definitely to your advantage to pursue that avenue.

Finally, are you on the January 2018 thread?  There are many folks there going through the same plight.  There is comfort in numbers!

Chin up, and *hugs*

I am a K1 January 12th filer also. Yes that’s very normal not getting anything yet. But I suggest you should do the online inquiry now because we are already outside of the processing time, you can also contact your congressman and the ombudsman for inquiry. Praying for nextweek will be our week.🙏🙏

When you ask a congress person for help on these things is it bad? I mean will it result in a greater chance of denial because it seems like you are complaining and "having the boss get on their butts" so to speak? Not exactly that but you get the idea.

No, but you should definitely be outside of the USCIS processing date.  Congressional inquiries into immigration cases are very common, and in fact a "service" provided by the offices of our elected representatives.

There is an old thread on VJ started by a former USCIS adjudicator, and he mentions that the congressional inquiry cases do get looked at, as the USCIS is required to respond.

USCIS will respond to any case status inquiry, not just congressional ones. Usually the response is not very helpful, though. A congressional inquiry is fine to do, but it won't and cannot help or hurt your case....just provide a status update.

I know things keep changing so not sure if it's different now, but we waited over 8 months for approval for our K1 in 2014 (frustrated as hell while we watched people at the other service center sailing through in 7-14 days!!)  We were in contact with our congressman's office throughout and it made not a stitch of difference.  USCIS would not give them any more info or a different story to what they would give us which was always pretty much "Shut up and wait in line."  That said, I'd never say don't try.  If nothing else, working through the congressman at least gave us small stretches of hope and a bit of distraction in that we were doing something.

Good luck.  I hope your approval is about to happen. Those were the hardest and darkest months of our lives!  I'm sincere when I say I empathize with you.
