Some questions about the K1 post-NVC, pre-interview stage (p3? and timelines?

Hi everyone,

So, my fiancée and I are at the pre-interview stage in the K1 process, and we have been wondering some things:

First off, we just got our NVC case number a few days ago. Does anyone know roughly how long we might be expecting to wait before it will be sent out to the consulate in Montreal, and how long it will take to get there? The agent I spoke to said 1 to 3 weeks, but I'm wondering about what people have been experiencing these days.

And we were also wondering, after the embassy receives the case from the NVC, how will they contact me (the Canadian beneficiary) to give me packet 3?

Do they do this by email, or by snail mail? Is there any place I need to register to tell them how to contact me, or do they already have that information? (I did give the NVC my email so I could be contacted electronically about the case, and my contact information is in the i-129F package, so is it one of those things that's how they know where to send packet 3? Or, again, do I have to tell them where to send it?)

And, roughly how long does it take these days from my sending my packet 3 checklist email to the embassy, to receiving packet 4?

And then, again, how long does it take these days to go from there to actually getting to the interview?

Thank you so much!

I got lucky and got through to the embassy stage quite quickly. I got NVC case number on July 19th, it left the NVC on the 24th, and the consulate had it by the 27th.

And we were also wondering, after the embassy receives the case from the NVC, how will they contact me (the Canadian beneficiary) to give me packet 3? -

Or, again, do I have to tell them where to send it?) -When I called NVC to get my number I made sure they had my email address on file. In the end I got packet 3 via email and then in the mail the next day as well.

And, roughly how long does it take these days from my sending my packet 3 checklist email to the embassy, to receiving packet 4?

And then, again, how long does it take these days to go from there to actually getting to the interview?

Thank you so much! These things all vary for everyone! My interview is going to be exactly 2 months after I got my NVC number...the best you can do to get a sense of the "normal" times is check out some other Canadian timelines, go to the Canada-specific forum (through the "Portals" tab at the top), and join the August NoA2- NVC thread. Good luck!

Thank you so much!

1) That's accurate.  They send them in batches and it can take from a few days to a few weeks.  Keep an eye on the CEAC website to track where your case is

2) Since you provided your email they will email you.

3) Depends.  If they asked you to send the P3, it normally takes a few days.  If they accepted the P3 but didn't ask it can take a week or two.

4) Again it depends, sometimes there are interviews the next month, sometimes you have to wait for 2 months for interviews to open up.  If you get your P4 before December chances of having the ability to book the interview the next month is high.  December tends to see a lull because they're busier then.
