we have already started and we dont have the nvc number yet, probably in the next couple of weeks we should have it, then we anticipate 4 weeks for it to be ready at the embassy. we are basically ready to go with that, she is just waiting for her police certificates

She's having to wait for them? I thought in Ukraine you just walked into one of the Regional Ministry Centers and got them right then, no fees or waiting required. Maybe I should have Kris go start working on getting hers now? I think they're good for 6 months, so I guess no harm in doing it now..

well she will have to wait for the one from Moldova since she was there till she was 17. I told her she could go to the local office in Zaporozhye to get it there also, but she wasn't sure exactly where to go and i couldnt find the address for her. She is still looking for where to get everything she needs from Moldova, but the site that i found was in Romanian, not Russian, so I told her to contact the Moldovan embassy in Odessa

Oh okay, I didn't consider that she had lived somewhere else. Tomorrow I'll tell Kris to start working on getting hers and we'll see how it goes. I have the instructions for obtaining it in Ukraine.. somewhere.. just gonna have to try to track them down.

I was under the impression you need the NVC number before you pay any fees.

From my understanding, you can fill out your DS-160 and even pay for it when you get your NVC number, but you cannot schedule any interviews until your CEAC status is at "Ready". Otherwise, you're scheduling an interview for a file the embassy hasn't even received yet.

This is what I gathered from what I've read but maybe @Greenbaum can clarify or correct this.

There is only two fees, the interview fee and the medical fee. That's it. NO THERE ISN'T A FEE TO FILE THE DS-160!!

You can complete the DS-160 at any time just as long as it is completed the day before the interview. You can pay your interview with your NVC number but be very careful not all embassy allow this. I know china does not and will cancel your appointment and send you to the back of the line. So get a hold of a P3 for your embassy and find out what the procedure is. Doing something before you are allowed to will only set you back. Don't be stupid. :D

Yea of course. I'll try to track down the document I had if I can. I know I gave her a copy of it while I still lived there, and yea, it was in Russian. I will tell her to go next week and see if she's successful, then I'll ask her how the process went and report back to you.

I actually already prepared a huge proof of relationship packet while I was still working at the Embassy in Kyiv

Very cool that you worked in the embassy.  Your fiance shouldn't have any trouble when they ask her how the two of you met and what you do for work. :)

Yea our proof of relationship packet is pretty solid. Ticketing through the Defense Travel System, visa stamps on my official government passport, pictures from a cancer benefit 5k we went to with the Embassy Run Team, etc. If they claim there's not enough proof I'm just going to assume it's someone I accidentally cut in line in the cafeteria or something 😂

Sadly I didn't work in the Consular section, so I don't know anybody in that portion though. The Consular section is completely cut off from the rest of the Embassy and kinda acts independently.

You are more than fine.

I was fortunate enough to attend the interview with my fiance and I noticed the Consular section had its own entrance and you had to go through security in one building first and then go outside and re-enter the consular section of the embassy.  I assumed that behind the counter everything was connected but it makes sense that it is cutoff from the rest of the embassy.
