Sending money to Russia? Best way?

Hey guys what method are you using to send money to your Russian relatives?  I had great success sending my fiance money by leaving my paypal card with her and having her just take money from the ATM. However now that she is my wife and in the US we find we need to send money back to her family. Western Union is an option but expensive. There is also Transferwise, haven't used that service yet but seems promising.

I've used the Xoom option through Paypal before to send directly to their bank account or a designated location that they can pick-up. Wal-Mart also have a money transfer service that is cheaper than Western Union fees.

They can creat their paypal account and put information for their card and u can transfer the money on it .And they will withdrawal money to their bank card which they use in russia...but yes..why would u do it...sorry though its not our business.

as per Paypal customer service: "You can send funds to Russia but their paypal accounts do not have the ability to withdraw those funds to a card or bank account."

How so....i do)im still in russia, and my hudsband sends me if i need and i have no problem to do...i tied my bank card to account and withdraw w no problems...strange to hear it...is it new rulles??i did last month and everything was ok

So you signed up for paypal from russia, and your husband in the US can send money to it which you in turn can transfer to your bank? Paypal are idiots so I wouldn't at all be surprised if their own agents have no clue.

I just checked my account, which i created un russia. All works!!yes my husband in the US now. Right, he sends , i withdraw ro my bank account (my card) whih i tied to the account

He sends from his paypal account to mine paypal account , and then i withdrawal the money to my bank card

The USD is gaining strength. I sent money to my husband to help pay some of the mortgage on the apartment he bought us a year ago.

 

How we did it is a bit unique thought, one of his coworkers wanted to send money from Russia to the USD and I had extra money in our American bank account, and figuring how much I needed for immgration and back up funds. Etc. Our main bank wouldn't let my US paypal account to transfer to another US paypal account. (Yes its verified). So I physically had to move the money to another bank that we use, and he used his Russian paypal account to move the money into the coworker's family's US paypal.

I also forgot to add that i tried to have my husband (all the way in Russia)to used my us paypal account when he tryied to link the main bank account to his Russian paypal account and it gave him an error about one account to one bank account to the primary.

 

And yes paypal called me to verified me again..... So we had given up in using my account and used his paypal account with the 2nd bank. So it took us a week since I physically withdrew money from the atm and deposit it into the 2nd bank. And 5 minutes of me depoting the money he woukd transfer it to the other person. Surprised none of the accounts got frozen

We use MoneyGram, just download the app and enter her information it saves it for next time. if I send  $200.00 it  costs $12.00 if you use the bank draft option instead of credit card.

Just make sure when you search for locations in Russia that they can pick up and not just receive. Its usually banks and not stores that do that.

I used to use WsternUnion, but they are expensive especially if you are sending a big amount of money. The last couple of times I used a system called RiaMoneyTransfer. They have a flat rate of $5 (if you use a bank account) and I haven't had any problems with them so far. However, make sure they have an agent location (usually it's a bank branch) in the city or a town when your recipient lives.

By the way, I find it extremely inappropriate that people ask you why do you need to send money. Why is it any of their business? 🙄
