Hi. I'm married to an LPR .. I wonder what happened after Bush plans to scrap US family petition? Is it effective immediately? What now?

Thank You for a quick response. Some says that the processing of LPR's Petition slows done.. before it only takes about 5-7 years and now 15-20 years!..

Last I saw, processing for spouses/minor children of LPRs from the Philippines was still taking 5-7 years. It may take 15-20 for relatives in different preference categories, such as parents, adult children, siblings, etc. Spouses/minor children of US citizens do not have to wait for a visa number to become available, so the wait is only as long as it takes to process the visa, which can be anywhere from a few months to a couple of years. US citizens can petition for more relatives than LPRs can, and if you have family members you want to bring over it would be worth becoming a citizen so you can cut the waiting time or petition for them at all.

The proposed legislation being discussed should not have any effect on current rules/policies, though that may change in the future. For now, I don't think anything has changed.

The other prefrence classes require that the LPR naturalize before they can file. Parents get immediate preference in that case, siblings are still at the bottom of the preference class.

They are politicians. Who's going to trust their words when they say it?

We will see when it pass both Senate and The house of representatives, and whoever becomes president signs it.

It's a proposal. It hasn't been passed into law - nothing happens that fast.

Any way, I'm wondering what new proposal will say about 10 year ban for 180days-or-over illegal stay.

No news article is mentioning about it.

In reality, $5000 for processing fee? How the heck low income people can pay for those fee?

It seems to me that the guy at whitehouse needs money to cover all deficit he incurred from the War game he had.

The way it's written now, 10 year ban for overstay/illegal presence of more than 180 days who entered the US after Jan. 1, 2007 will become a permanent ban that cannot be overcome with a waiver.
