k-1 Canadian Police Clearance

Hey guys I need some help with the police clearance. It's still not clear to me which type of clearance is needed. I am located in Canada. I've read that finger print based clearance is not needed, and that just a name checked clearance is needed. Now there are two types (vulnerable sector and just a regular police criminal record check) - Which one would I do? Should I just try and get the finger print one just incase?

I've emailed the Montreal Consulate the same question, but they're going to take about a week to reply apparently. But I need some type of hard copy proof of what I need otherwise the police detachment sounds like they won't process it... so frustrating.

you just need the regular name-based one unless you have a criminal record. I got mine from the commissionaires in BC.

I had a vulnerable sector check done about 8 months ago now for work, they didn't finger print me. But I suppose I would need to get another one specifically for the visa. Thank you for your reply, I feel less stressed now. They really sounded like they didn't want to do my finger prints. So I will go with the name check.

Unless you've been arrested (technically unless you've been convicted) you only need a name check.

I went to the local RCMP detachment in Kelowna and they just ran my name through the federal database. I told them it was for immigration and they gave me 2 copies with it being embossed (that special stamp). It was accepted at the interview no problem.

You can try your local police detachment but some cities or towns take longer than others. I was fortunate I got mine completed the same day I went in.

I went and got the name based one today, it will take at least two weeks to get it back.. if not longer :( I live in a rural town so they have to process it in another city. I so wish I could get mine done in a day, if it takes longer than two weeks it will push back everything.

as a note you need this for interview, you do not need this to send the packet 3.

Many people mistakenly think they need everything on the list before they send the signed list, but you don't.  You are just confirming you will have it all at interview.
