N400 ..haven’t received update

Hi all, I’m asking for a friend- he applied for n400 in October , received NOA and went for biometrics. Since then there has not been an update on his case. Based on the case tracker app almost everyone that filed that day already had interview or even oath ceremony. Is this normal? Is it something to be concerned about that there hasn’t been any update since October?

Could be a more extensive background check of your friend.  Do they have a common name that may complicate USCIS's work in researching your friend.  Another potential cause, did your friend move or change residents recently?  If they believe they are outside the normal processing times for their office, they should set up an InfoPass appointment and see if they can find anything out.

Hello, thank you. His name is not “common” but he did move during this process-different address but same town/state. He did notify USCIS and received appropriate response from them regarding address change. I’ll look into the normal processing time for Mass location and let him know to make infopass if he wants. Thanks again!

what is the status? in line for interview or we are reviewing your case?

 

 

the first means at least background check cleared.

 

the latter means, that is the hurdle.

It is still “we are reviewing your case”... good to know, thanks. Thus may be a dumb question but can/do they send out RFE s for n400?

Not necessarily - I never got the "in line" status, moved from "we are actively reviewing your case" to "we scheduled your interview". Quite a few people mention that they never passed through the in line stage.
