"Since his case reached the high court, Mr. Phillips said, he has faced “venomous” harassment including death threats and “countless hateful phone calls.” He also lost 40 percent of his income and had to cut more than half of his workforce.

He said a Colorado lawyer, August Scardina, has made a crusade out of pestering him with outrageous cake requests and then complaining to state officials when he refuses."

Leftist intolerance on display.

Yes, it sucks what is happening to the guy, but he brought it on himself.  Just bake the stupid cake and that's it.  While I can appreciate his right to whom he provides his services, there are consequences to our actions.  Just like freedom of speech.  You can say what you want but there will be consequences.  Baking a cake (if that's the business you are in) doesn't mean that you support gay marriage or transgenders.

Now, all the wackos are coming out of the woodwork.

You forget that he offered to bake the cake in the first place, but he refused to add his artistic talent to the cake which should be his choice.  As to the rest, are you saying it is fine now that this guy is being harassed and threatened by a bunch of intolerant leftist activist?

No, he himself is claiming to a newspaper that a lawyer is constantly asking him to make varying cakes and then complaining. Nothing in his statement reflects your position that the lawyer is a ''leftist activist'' or even that his claims are true. They could merely just be trying to make a point, or simply be a crazy person.  There is nothing in this attorney's background that implies activism. They are a small time family case attorney. There is something else I wanted to point out though, the baker and a few others have teamed up with actual activist organizations that would seek to push the boundaries, by claiming all sorts of things, and not only enjoying it, but wanting such challenges - so that they can go to court with them. While the baker believes this person has lodged many 'cake orders' requesting things, this is all hearsay based on the baker's say so, beyond the one cake they asked for. If it does go back to SCOTUS ever again, don't expect the same result. They had quite a nuanced/punted opinion that implied the same result may not be had, if the circumstances were slightly different. Their ruling was more directed towards if the Baker had been treated fairly during the legal process and Colorado board's hearings on the matter (which was no).

Apologies, I was overcome by identity politics syndrome.  Regardless, what would you label someone that harasses another individual on a continuing basis and it starts the day of a SCOTUS decision I am assuming the harasser disagrees with?  Sounds like activism to me.

I doubt all the death threats are coming from the right, nor from the lawyer.

I would call it: if such accusations are true, and we don't know if they are either - a variety of potential options: a nutty person trying to make a point, a person overcome by some emotions and wanting to make a bigger point by poking holes in a complicated subject which did not exactly get a full resolution in SCOTUS, a person who called up and was by all accounts treated rudely by the person on the phone (it's not going to do the baker any favors by being a jerk to those he refuses), or, if you want to go more conspiratorial a person who was hired by the organization supporting the baker to do what they did to continue pushing the boundaries(not saying this is the case at all, but it is not unheard of with these groups).

Really though there's nothing about the lawyer that screams activist to me. They seem to either be a crazy person (if the allegation is proven true) or a person trying to prove a point. And America is filled with jerks on either side ready and willing to prove a point.

I certainly don't believe that the death threats (and the baker is not claiming the lawyer issued threats at all) are from 'activists', merely that they have received them through a variety of mediums (the gay couple in the original case got them too) and there is no way to prove whom is issuing them. The baker is complaining about a loss of business and $s... well... that's capitalism and freedom for you. If he wants the right to refuse service to people for his reasons, then logically people will reserve the right to not use his business.

Loss of income is on him. Many former customers no longer support him due to his behavior. If it is his right not to bake the cake (as the supreme court ruled), then it is a consumers right to go elsewhere. According to Yelp reviews, his products may not be that great to begin with.

Yep, never said that there are consequences for one's actions, additionally, not really sure Yelp is an unbiased source in this case.  My only issue is with receiving threats and harassment from some intolerant folks.

Now if he can prove that he lost the income because of the threats and harassment then he may have a case.
