Hi everyone. I'm new to the site and definetly need some help. Me and my fiance are, in what appears to be the final steps of our k1 process. For the record we started it in December of 2017, and as of August 2018 I was able to schedule my interview for Mid September (18th to be exact). Right now we are worried about potential processing times after the interview. We want to have our ceremony on October 13th. Anyone knows where I can get an estimate of the process times for the Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Embassy?

Usually the visa is granted quickly after the interview - within days or 1-2 weeks. That being said, it is highly inadvisable to plan a wedding ceremony until your visa is in hand. It's much better to have a legal ceremony and follow up with another when things are less up in the air.

Hi Great Dane,

I absolutely agree we should've done it like that. Looking back we should've gone about it the way your said it. We are just torn now between having the party but don't do the legal paperwork or take a chance on trying to get an earlier interview date. Thanks a lot for such quick response!

I think there are a few things you should so to get better answers to your questions.

First, make sure to complete your profile and fill in the details of your timeline.

Next, go to "portals" and select Brazil. There you will have the option of selecting other members timelines.

I recommend you ignore statistics that are older than 2018 because in one year things changed a lot.

At present, average times to get your visa in hand vary from 5 days to 3 weeks.

When asked how you would like to receive your visa, what option did you choose?

Hi Nat&Amy, I am still getting the rest of the dates from the documentation. And I did choose to pick up my passport to avoid Brazil's any delays.

Excellent. Picking up the passport is in my opinion the best option.

As to the wedding ceremony, the K1 visa process certainly makes things hard to plan but not impossible. Venues require deposits, so do catering companies and wedding planners, so as long as you find someone flexible to work with, you should be fine.

I wish I had found Visajourney earlier because when we submitted our petition we were absolutely convinced we would be able to have our wedding ceremony in June... So of course our initial deposit had to be forfeited and the date moved to October 😌

Oh no! Well, for us, we thought process would be done by Sep. From what we have now it seems like it could, bit with venue booked and people already RSVP, we are worried that if an issue happens, it'll be a groom-less wedding!

😂😂

Yeah, now that would be quite the unique wedding ceremony!

Things look good, tho, and if you have all the docs you need you might be all set by the end of the next month.  Unfortunately not many people come post after their case leaves NVC so it is always hard to tell why some people get their visa in hand in 5 days and other in 20 days...

Good luck!

Well I'll come back once I have the dates and share as much as I can. We have decided to move the interview to avoid any sort of problems. Thanks a bunch for your help anyways!
