Montreal vs Mumbai Consulate for IR1 Interview

Our case has been received by NVC and we are waiting for the case number. I am curious to know if we request to transfer our case to Mumbai instead of Montreal, would it result in the interview happening sooner?

In other words, is the Mumbai consulate moving faster for IR1 visa interview scheduling compared to the Montreal consulate?

I'm not sure of the backlog in either place right now, but it will cost you two or three weeks just to change it.

I understand that it takes a few weeks but I was under impression that happens if you request a consulate transfer after the case number has been assigned. Will it take a few weeks even when the case number hasn't been assigned yet?

Montreal has electronic processing.  It will be faster to go through them if you havent yer started the NVC stage vs couriering documents.

  • 1 month later...

My IR1 visa application is at NVC. I have a pivot case and submitted all my documents to NVC electronically through CEAC. I am about to receive a case complete.

1. I wonder if I ask NVC to switch my consulate for interview to India, would that delay anything?
2. Is India also a Pivot consulate?
3. Can I do the medical in Canada and attend interview in India?
4. If answer to question 3 is no, how far in advance does one have to do medical in India?

Is there a last minute reason you want to go back to India? Why not just finish the process in Canada then go back to India afterwards but before coming to US?

Case complete to interview is taking less time in India.

Is it such a significant amount of time that transferring your Visa and paying to go to India is worth all the hassle? For what, a couple weeks maybe? It may take a couple weeks just to transfer it.

Do what you want but this late in the game I'd just staying in Canada.

How would I have to pay? Is there a fee for requesting a case transfer?

Also, this is something I am considering but not sure about. My wife is sick (not sure if we'd qualify for expedite based on that though), so we are exploring this option to reduce the time we have to spend apart.

I meant pay for airfare.

If your wife is so ill that she needs you there you could try requesting.  Make sure you have a lot of proof from her doctors. Is she still able to work or will you be using a co sponsor?

It will take a few months to get the case transferred.  You'd lose any benefit to transferring.

I don't know anything about transferring a case, but mine is with Montreal. I received my case number May 10th and have been waiting for an interview date since July 26th. Montreal seems to be taking at least 6 weeks to assign an interview date.
