Will minor traffic offense stop me from visiting the UK?

My husband is a LPR from UK and I'm a US citizen. Once every couple years we like to take a trip back to UK just to visit. However in February 2017 I got a ticket for swerving lanes when tired. Petty misdemeanor ticket. Everything was paid right away I was not arrested. We want to visit UK next year but I fear this ticket may cause me problems when crossing the border. I know on tourist visas they require you to declare even minor traffic violations. But I don't travel their on visa I just go with my US passport. So am I going to have problems?

No, you shouldn't have problems at all. It's a Shengen visa country so as a USC you'll typically let in with zero to minimal questions. When I enter, most of the time they don't even ask me the nature of my visit.

Whats a Shengen visa country? So can they see my traffic offense on their CBP computer? And why and how is it on a tourist visa you have to declare traffic violations but with just a US passport you don't have to?

Oops. Looks like UK isn't part of Schengen agreement.

U.K. isn’t part of the Shengen zone but it still doesn’t matter so don’t worry about it. UK does ask that as part of it’s visa application process, however; it’s not an inadmissibility and doesn’t even affect your application if you have it anyway. I got a visa also visited the UK as well this summer even though I have had past traffic violations.

10/01/2014: EAD mailed.

10/03/2014: Received EAD card.

10/14/2014: I-485 moved to testing and interview.

This is on the UK visitor's visa application.

In question 6.9 it asks about "any criminal offence (including driving offences) in the UK or any other country, at any time. Then, question 6.11 asks "Have you been subject to, or received, any other penalty by a court or the police; for example caution, discharge, fine or community sentence in the UK or any other country?

 

The question on criminal offences is asked in the US tourist visa application as well.

No you don’t have to declare anything. The most you’ll be asked is what address in the UK you’ll be living at and also the purpose of visit and duration. By the way the immigration form you’ll be given prior to landing in the UK doesn’t have any questions regarding this issue. Just travel you’ll be fine. My wife and I travelled 3 months ago to the UK for vacation. She’s a U.S. citizen with also a traffic violation and this isn’t an issue.

Did she travel on passport only? And how long ago was her ticket?

This. I’m sitting here grinning at your worrying over this, not in a mean way but because the idea that our border security care that you made a poor lane switch one time is hilarious.

The only questions u are generally asked are purpose of visit, where u are staying and  how long your stay will be. 

 

They could care less about traffic tickets or any minor offenses you might have.
