Philippines US Embassy Interview - Engagement/Proposal

Good day! Is it going to be a red flag if my Fiance didn't really propose to me? I mean we just had a topic about getting married and then decided to file the visa which I thought it's the easiest way to end this long distance. For sure they will ask about this during the interview. What will be the best way to answer this?

Here is our timeline:

We've known each other since 2005, we were schoolmates

2009-2017 we communicate here and there through facebook (not that much just hi, hello, how are you)

May 2017 went to the Philippines, we saw each other, we hung out for a day

June 2017  November 2017 We text, call almost every day, planned our trip together

November 2017 We went to Hong Kong for 4 days, became a couple

January 2018 Filed K1 visa

March 2018 went to the Philippines for 2 weeks to visit him, stayed in a condo with him.

August 2018 NOA2

No. There really is no need for any official proposal or even a ring. Some countries do have more "Strict" cultural things but the Philippines, nothing like that is needed. Don't even need to show chats about it. The letters of intent you both submit is proof enough.

Thank you for your response! That's what I thought too, I mean it's not our tradition to have some kind of an engagement thing. I told him to answer them the truth, that we just talked about marriage and that's it. He still thinks it's a red flag.

I just feel like nowadays, it's all about being practical. Especially with this kind of situation, being away from each other.

Exactly. For us interview was very straight forward. Questions about where I (the petitioner) worked, where I lived, what we did during my visit in the Philippines... total 9-10 basic questions. They do review the chat logs you send. I would call him 'pogi' and the CO asked who was calling who that. So they do at least skim through them.

No, they didn't at all. The CO talked to me more than he talked to my then fiancé now wife.

M1123 huh? Why did you choose the name of a Humvee? I have driven hundreds of miles in those things and hate them with a passion.

I burnt out one of the engines cause of an oil leak lol. Others broke axles chasing people through fields... oh the joys of night vision in the fields too when you just saw black and hoped it wasn't a ditch or hole in the ground(not the humvees fault here though)

Those things sucked so much. Let's take a regular humvee and add 1-2 thousand pounds of armor to it when the engine can't handle it. Plus the AC doesn't ever work so you literally begin to boil inside...

I completely agree with you there. I saw a big difference in 2004 when they took our regular Humvees and added the 1st Generation of uparmor onto the Humvees. They had to add suspension just for the vehicles to handle that lite armor then but the driving sucked ### literally, and then tried to maneuver them on ship was the worst during deployment.  The 1stGen was horrible because they had the armor with literally 1-2 inch long holes for the bolts to go through so that they could maneuver them to get them to fit right. We then had to go out and personally buy goop to plug the holes due to the NC weather. Also the AC system was inadequate to say the least, and I found that out in KSA, Kuwait, and Iraq. This doesn't take into account that I had a NCO as a A Driver who turned off the A/C everytime I turned it on in Kuwait because "he wanted to conserve the A/C".

The 4th Gen uparmor saved my ### in 2007 or else I would have a legit Purple Heart and not having the Marines for one now due to having TBI due to a IED.

Nope.  Requirements for filing the I-129F are:

1.  Having met in person within the past two years

2.  Both parties are free to marry at the time of filing the I-129F

3.  Both parties complete a Letter of Intent to Marry

Proposals and rings are not required. ;)

If they do ask about this during the interview.. best answer is the honest answer.

Yeah I highly suggest you go with during the interview to help calm her and alleviate some fears she may have.

Yeah sorry I saw that and just responded to it. Where in the Philippines is she from?

It's a "he" lol and he's from Cebu. Well, we are both from Cebu, I migrated here to the US 9 years ago. I was thinking to go there but might as well save the money cos I'm thinking to go to the Philippines one last time before he comes here lol
