Hello Everyone,

I am writing this query in behalf of my mother in law who petitioned her married daughter last 2001 and now a widow.

Her question is, how can she change the status of the petition from F3(married son/daughter of USC) to F1(unmarried son/daughter of USC)?

Thank you very much in advance..

She needs to contact NVC. They will likely request evidence that she is no longer married (e.g. a certified copy of the death certificate).

She can write a request to NVC via this form: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/visa-information-resources/ask-nvc.html

Filling all the field, check the box "Please update my NVC file with this email address", so NVC can update her email.

From now on, NVC will communicate with her via her email address.

Type the question in a box with a request for changing status from F3 to F1 due to a change in marriage status.

Then she should attach the scan of:

- Her daughter's marriage certificate.

- Death certificate of her daughter's spouse or divorce certificate.

- Approval notice (if any)

After 2- 6 weeks, NVC will reply and update her daughter's status, or they will ask her to submit the scan of other necessary documents.

If they request a hard copy or certified copy, only send NVC a copy via mail.

Do not send orginal documents because NVC will lost her documents in processing, and she has to bring originals to the interview.
