Use the guides here. It does seem overwhelming I will agree and I looked at it the same way as you are. rounding up all this paperwork getting police reports, you are going to have some really serious conversations with your significant other if you haven't already. ( For example since my fiancees father was deceased about 8 years ago I needed dates and information about the day he died for the I129F, and I felt really bad about asking questions like this but if you are going to spend the rest of your life with someone you should be able to talk about these things)

I am only 3 days from the interview at the embassy now and did it on my own. once you get started and put your mind to it it isn't that bad. Just do one page a day, work on it piece by piece, I started in early November and didn't mail the petition until Mid December. If your really dedicated you can more than likely do it in a few weeks if you hit it hard, but you don't want to just throw everything together all crazy like, put together a nice packet and send it in. You will be happy you saved the money from an attorney later when you see all the fees that follow, this is not a cheap process or a very fast one for sure.

But if I did it, I am pretty sure anyone is capable, thousands of people do the I129 by themselves all the time( You will see the posts on here), and they all get thru it.

Good luck on your journey it will be nothing short of an eye opening experience into immigration. And the fact that my fiancee goes to her interview in a few days no matter how it turns out I feel like I really accomplished something, of course I hope she gets the visa, and will be devastated if not, but I am prepared for any outcome.

Here on a K1? Need married and a Certificate in hand within a few hours? I'm here to help. Come to Vegas and I'll marry you Vegas style!!   Visa Journey members are always FREE for my services. I know the costs involved in this whole game of immigration, and if I can save you some money I will!

Here is a rough breakdown of just the government fees. On top of these you have the Medical exam 200-300 dollars, and on top of that a bunch of little things that will seem like you are getting nickle and dime to death( Translation costs ( Do it online, it's easy and cheap), and costs for passport photos, and travel costs, and police records cost). don't let this scare you too bad, most of the fees are pretty spread out over years so you don't have to come up with money all at once. Here is a quick list/ summary below...

As of early 2018, the total filing fees for the K-1 process were $535 for Form I-129F (filed with USCIS), $265 to apply for the K visa (paid to the consulate), and $1,225 for Form I-485 and the adjustment of status packet (filed with USCIS), including the biometrics fee. That brings the total government U.S. fee to $2,025.

Now, all that gets you to the conditional green card that is good for 2 years, then you have to ROC ( Removal of Conditions) to the tune of about 800, a little less 775 I think, then after you get the 10 year green card you have to decide if you want to do the N-400 for full citizenship and that is running around 800 dollars right now too, but that is optional, you can just keep renewing the greencard at about 800 dollars every 10 years, or do the best thing and get citizenship and be done.

I don't want to scare you out of this in any way, but you should know the costs now before you get stuck down the road. I'm not going to sugarcoat it for you, it's expensive, but once again it is spread out over years so it's not too bad.

Hi,  I'm also the US petitioner to a DR fiance. We did the I-129F ourselves by doing PLENTY of reading and asking questions in this forum. We just mailed it in.

To start, go to uscis website and download the pdf application. It is important to note that the current one is set to expire 8/31/18. You either rush to complete and mail packet before said date or wait a few says for the new version. Either way, the form will show you what info is needed so you have an idea of what info to gather from fiance, unless you already know it.

There are plenty sample of cover letters on how to assemble packet. As of date, the application fee is $535 payable via personal check, USPS money order, or cashier's check [preferably from your bank].

Read...read...read...and we'll help you clarify some stuff along the way.

Catherine.

P.S. start screenshotting your call logs/conversation on whatever platform you use to communicate. Approx. 2 per month of communication. Save your boarding passes or print your flight purchases emails, as well some pics of you two during your trips to DR.
