We have the same problem it seems. Received the 797C courtesy notice today. We did not use a lawyer for filing. I even called our previous attorney who helped with AOS just in case and they didn't receive anything either.

I'm interested to hear if anyone has managed to get this problem resolved and get their official notice. If so, can you please share what steps you took?

Hey guys on Tuesday I called uscis I’m sharing my experience I posted on Janie art 2018 filers forum.

I’ven been on the phone pretty much all morning speaking with several uscis reps. The first time I got connected to a tier 2. he was very rude and hung up on me saying he couldn’t confirm or deny any info and that my receipt number was not even on file so I needed to write a letter to csc. And all I was just asking where did my original official  extensión letter went to.

Now I’m waiting for a 2nd round (a tier 2 is supposed to call me back from their generated waiting on queue).

Follow up... to the courtesy copy....

i received the call from tier 2, around 12pm and this guy was very nice. he explained that uscis is experiencing  backlogs (we already know that, lol) and that the system is “creating” automatic 18- month letters some are courtesy  copies some are original. If I didn’t have an attorney then form G-28 doesn’t apply to me and since I received a copy that copy must be attached to my original 12month Ext letter. But if I have an attorney then the original was sent to attorney. he said that is very unlikely the official letter went to my former attorney.

Supposedly if we received an original 12monthletter then the second letter is a copy. Form what I’ve read here there some fellows who received both originals12month and 18month.

I just hope all this calls I made didn’t messed up my case in their system since they kept asking for all my info (name,ss# and receipt #).

In conclusion I guess we got “lucky” and got a copy 😑

all i have to say now is that everything is in God’s hand 🙏 and everything will be alright.

That just doesn’t make any sense. I would not expect the courtesy copy that says it’s an official document to satisfy employers or customs.

It was very frustrating how each different rep gave a different answer.

Honestly I think the system pushed out a mass amount of the courtesy copies and just sent them out, and haven't alerted anyone at the call centers of this. There probably hasn't been a memo sent out on how to deal with it, so they're just treating it as a "what to do if X,Y, and Z" happen, since the rep you talked to gave the explanation of "Well if you have a lawyer then X, if you don't then Y". People who have already received their 10 year have gotten 18 month extensions after their green card.

The problem will be if CBP looks for the watermark on the courtesy copy which it doesn't have. Once the 12 month original expires, then the 18 month is what they will look at, which again, doesn't have any watermark and states on there that it is not an official notice.

hey guys, just wanted to share my experience of using extension letter. I had recently applied for the schengen visa to travel to Italy. When I went to attend the interview, Immigration officer checked my expired green card and wanted to see the extension letter. He used blue light to check the watermark and the letter. I was wondering if I had taken my 18 month courtesy copy, what would have happened? Thankfully my 12 month original extension was still valid and I used that one to prove my current status. Has anyone else encountered similar scenarios?

That's why most people are asking what to do. Courtesy copies won't pass the watermark test.

So far the most info we've gotten is that USCIS knows people aren't getting regular copies, but there's no word on how far that word has gone. It could be great that USCIS reps know, but if CBP has no idea then it doesn't really matter.

I don't know if anyone's traveled on the courtesy copy with an expired 12 month extension letter.

I saw in one of the monthly filing threads that a couple of people received the courtesy copy first and then received the real copy 1-2 weeks later. Has anyone here received their real letter in the meantime?

I haven’t received the official copy (got the courtship copy on 8/24.    I was also wondering the sameness thing, if we will actually receive the official notice.
