So I had my interview last Tuesday. I was missing my family register. The CO gave me my passport back and a white form with a check on the missing document.

I immediately got the family register and sent it on the same day along with my passport via Aramex.

Now my status on CEAC changed to Administrative Processing.

I need to know if anyone had a similar experience before. How long will it take? Is it going to take the same as the regular AP? I was only missing one document which I wasn't even informed of.

Also, my fiance is doing a surgery next month and I need to be with him. I have a valid B2 visa. Am I able to retrieve my passport and visit him using it? Or Will the whole procedure be called off?

Thank you.

You need to wait it out. I’m pretty sure you’re not able to get your passport back. AP takes as long as it takes. Some take days, weeks, months, or years. No one knows. Your tourist visa will be canceled if your immigrant visa is approved. Even if you had your passport back and wanted to travel to the US on your tourist visa, you would experience some difficulty at POE due to a pending immigrant visa petition. You’re better off waiting it out. Even if you were able to get your passport back and allowed to travel, you’d just be adding more time to your processing.

The worst thing that could happen is:

1.  Denied entry when arriving at the US border and a quick trip back to Egypt....possible

2.  Added delay to your K-1...definiately

Hopefully, the AP will end and you can travel to the US via your approved K-1.......good luck...

It's weird that I can't get my passport back. What if I want to travel anywhere else in the world? I can't have my passport away forever.

Anyway, thank you so much for your reply. I'll wait more and see what will happen.

I really hope so. I've read that sometimes they just change the status to AP for a couple of days till they finally do to "Issued". Hope this is the case with me.

Thank you for your reply.

It’s not gonna be forever. It’s just as long as it takes to process. This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone applying for any visa as it is standard procedure. How else will they attach the visa to your passport?

There is nothing you can do now, except waiting. I know it is suck. My status change to issued after few days (maybe 5 days). Finger crossed, hopefully you will get your passport with your Visa soon.

Okay so there's a probability that it might be issued sooner than I think. I really hope it does.

Thank you so much.

It's not a surprise. I'm just trying to say how frustrating it gets through this process since you have absolutely nothing to do and all your other plans have to go on hold.

I feel you. 😂😂😂😂😂😂 I make a mistake before, resigned my job before the interview. Since I need to serve 2 months notice and I really wanted to fly back with him (he came to attend the interview with me). So, end up, I jobless for a month and started getting bored even before the interview. After the interview, it make me curious when I will get my Visa because I really wanted to fly with him. Oh wow, I still can remember how crazy I am that time. Checking the site every day (once every hour or two hours). Let us know the updates. Really hope you will get it soon.

Actually you can ask for your passport back. They will ask for it when AP is over, the only other issue is whether they already canceled your B2. If they didn't it's not likely you will gain entry while in AP.

The whole point of AP is that your visa is still pending, for whatever reason. You have not yet been granted permission to arrive at the border so returning your passport for you to use your B-2 defeats the object of AP.

You can get your passport back - many people do if they need it for business travel to other countries, for example. If you do get it back, it's almost certain that your B-2 has been cancelled.

if they didnt give you the passport back it will take matters of days .... possibly the time of regular visa time.. witch is 15 days from the day of interview

I really hope this is the case. Because when I asked the CO after the interview he told me it will take 2 weeks to get my passport back. Still he didn't want to tell if it's approved or not.

Can you clarify what a family registry is? Like you said that was never a requirement on the list and we also are going through the cairo embassy for the K-1 visa. We would just like to be ready. Thank you so much!
