I check processing times and my area says 26 months. I have written to a senator with no replies and service inquiry has gone unanswered. Not sure what else I can do to speed up the process of the green card, maybe have her come in illegally and ask for asylum.

It’s taking a long time EVERYWHERE, regardless of when you filed it. Has nothing to do with you waiting a year.

I agree with @mushroomspore.   If your wife has a valid AP document, there is no need for worry.....

I was just wondering if the AP has an expiration date like the EAD. Do you renew that just as you would the EAD?  If you don’t renew and you needed to before leaving the country, would that be a reason for entry denial?  Thanks.

I am no AP expert, but I have read that AP is normally valid for one year, and it can be renewed the appropriate form. I think the CBP officer would have the authority to either deny admission or parole the individual into the country.

Yes. If it is in EAD/AP format it expires when the card expires. If it is in I-512L format it expires on the date listed.

Good idea to follow info below for AP like EADhttps://www.uscis.gov/greencard/employment-authorization-document:

Renewal EAD

If you are still eligible for employment authorization but your EAD will be expiring or has expired, you should file for a renewal EAD by submitting a new Form I-765 and filing fee (if required), unless a fee waiver is requested and approved. Generally, you should not file for a renewal EAD more than 180 days before your original EAD expires.

Yes, https://www.uscis.gov/green-card/green-card-processes-and-procedures/travel-documents/emergency-travel:

If you are seeking admission or parole at a port of entry you generally must have in your possession a valid and unexpired travel document (e.g. a green card, U.S. visa, an advance parole document) to present to the officer at the port of entry.
