Do I file my husband on my w4 even if hes not here yet? and do I need to put head of household or married?

Technically this is how it supposed to be done, adding spouse if you are married, but they will tell you can't because he is out of the country and doesn't have social security number...I read where you can add spouse and write NRA on form or you can apply for an ITIN number for spouse..In my situation, I filed my 2016 and 2017 taxes as single and mind you I was married then and now because I was told I couldn't add him for the two reasons I mentioned above..At that time I didn't have the information then that I have now..The only thing for me to do now is to get both years amended, but thank God that it didn't cause any issues at my husband's interview and he was approved..However, I don't and won't suggest anyone to file single if married and if they tell you can't add spouse, you can..

Filing as head of household will save you so much stress
