For those of us who can't make it to the hearing on the muslim ban, here's the livestream link: https://judiciary.house.gov/legislation/hearings/oversight-trump-administration-s-muslim-ban

It'll be live at 10 am eastern time today (9/24)

I heard the whole hearing I think the pressure is on hop to see some changes or ban left. its mentioned that the state department and DHS has been working on accelerating the process of visa issuance since July. i noticed many people has their visa issued in the past two month.

I watched the whole thing too, it was very interesting. I think the ban supporters have a strong point. They probably won't issue the no-ban-act.
Because it is clear that it is NOT a Muslim ban, all the citizens of the countries are being affected regardless of their religion. So, I really do think that treating it as a Muslim ban is not going to solve our problem. They should focus on having an effective short waiver system instead. and grant exceptions on a case to case basis, like children and older people.

That is just my opinion. And I am saying this because I imagine the Syrian government for example will not cooperate with the US government. What are your opinions? And please correct me if I am wrong.

I do agree with you .. it’s not a Muslim ban at all .. its a ban against specific nations out of a  political regard.. and this is proved by the fact that many Muslims got their visas approved recently and many Christians are still waiting for their AP to be completed .. so I think if there was any act to be conducted it should be fighting the ban in general as a presidential proclamation and trying to at least make them make the process faster and clearer

Your analysis make sense, as I also figured the same , but mentioning a large number of Congress in favor of no ban act gives some idea if its true.  But I am sure that everything will be alright after my time pass 😂

Based on all the things Trump has said, I definitely think it originated as a blanket ban against muslims.  Politically, it softened the impact a bit to add in the other countries.  Trump has been nothing but open about his abject contempt for muslims.  Remember all the birther stuff?

I was at the congressional hearing and spoke at the storytelling/press conference prior to the hearing. While I agree that many impacted by the ban are not Muslims I feel the intent of the ban was to stop Muslims (or people from Muslim countries) from emerging the US. I think Venezuela and North Korea were added on for the government to save face. Although I am unsure that any of our cases will be directly or quickly impacted by today’s hearing it did show that there are members of Congress who are monitoring this ban and are finally calling out the Departments of State and Homeland Security for their lack of clarity in this situation. Several cases were brought up by different members of Congress and the representative from the DOS was writing down their names- so it will be interesting to see what comes of their cases. It was a long and emotional day but I am happy I got to be a part of it and pray that this Committee will continue to hold these groups to the fire. I would expect an update on the DOS website about the newest travel ban numbers soon.
