I thought the interesting item was that of the top ten countries four of them are VWP countries.

This is why it's hard to get a visitor visa.  Don't blame the US Government for demanding too much.  Blame these people.

Stick around here long enough, and you'll find out the truth... it's all Trump's fault!

That's interesting to see the countries where most overstays come from. Not totally related, but, I have often wondered why my fiance gets a 6 month stay coming into the UK, and not 90 days like most places. Also wonder how many overstays are through ignorance of entry conditions, or done entirely on purpose.

Very poorly written article. 700k is a scary #? Yet it is 1.3% of the total visitor visas? How does that % compare to other western nations?

Next, Canada/UK/France/Spain/Germany are not exactly places citizens escape to find asylum, so how many of these overstays turned into LPRs? How many exited the country after less than 30 days overstay? Would not be shocking if vast majority has nothing to do with illegal immigration.

Guess when it supports Trump its great journalism. When its liberal views, its bull from the media.

Maybe the VWP should be re-evaluated with respect to these countries.

How can you compare illegal immigration to overstays though? I mean they don't mention how many of these overstay people end up staying. It just says they overstayed and then make the comparison to illegal immigration. How many of these were not smart enough to not leave on the same day their VWP time was up and then got an overstay due to an airline delay for example? How many of these were dumb enough to overstay a couple of months and then returned? How many of these were au pairs who misunderstood how long their grace period was? Same with confusion around student visas?

I agree, there is a real big difference between an overstay where a person entered the country legally with inspection, vs illegal immigration where someone enters the US without inspection so comparing them is incorrect.  Not sure if there is no data, or the reporter/producer just didn't dig deep enough to find out if these folks over-staying stayed permanently or left eventually.  We occasionally see stories of folks from VWP countries that overstayed and of course lost their privilege and now are looking to come back, but we also hear stories of folks from Europe that have been here illegally (now) for some time.

2 +2=4  amazingly enough so does 3+1.

End result is either way you are still here illegally and we need to enforce the law

And as you probably read in my post I wasn't saying anything about whether or not we should enforce the law. I only stated that they didn't give any number on who stayed here illegally or who left and under what circumstances.
