I-864 for non petitioner

I just got married to my wife who is from Brazil, who is on a tourist visa and we are completing adjustment of status paperwork.  We are almost done but realized that I can't be a sponsor due to my inadequate income the last couple of years.  I was a full time student.  We are having my mother be the sponsor, but she is not the petitioner, I am.  So what option should she check on question 1 of the I-864.  I'm thinking it's 1d but saying that she's the only joint sponsor to me implies that there is two sponsors, but only she can be a sponsor.  Does anyone have any insight into this?  Thank you.

You’ll fill in an i864 and check “I am the petitioner” option

 She will fill in a separate i864 and check “i’m the only joint sponsor”

As the Petitioner, you are the primary Sponsor.  You send in your own I-864.  This is required even if you do not meet the financial requirements.  You will always be the primary Sponsor.

 

Your mother is the Joint Sponsor.  She files her own I-864 for your wife.  She is the only Joint Sponsor for your wife.

I'll just add that If you mother files taxes jointly with a spouse, then the spouse is usually requested to submit an I-864A as well since it is marital income/assets.
