What does the combo interview involve? Does it mean your spouse needs to come too, opposed to the normal n400?

basically, yes, but they don't tell you it's a combo interview. I just got a regular interview notice for N400, but knew they wouldn't adjudicate it without the ROC, so I made sure to have my spouse with me. The officer who called my name looked surprised and said my husband isn't needed, until I mentioned that I have a pending ROC as well.

So then your wife was actually allowed in the interview with you too? Did they ask her questions too? Just interested as I have both ROC and N400 pending (albeit the interview won’t be till next year)

thanks!

My wife had a combo interview.  I was allowed to stay for the I-751 portion but was told to leave for the N-400 interview.   The only question the officer asked me, was

to provide him with more recent bills with both our names.  We filed her I- 751 in Feb 2017, so he wanted bills from 2018, which I provided.

I'm the woman, he's the man :)

but yes, the officer asked us both a few general questions about our jobs, if we have kids etc. Unlike most other cases I read about, he let my husband stay for the n400 interview as well.

So you would file for ROC and as soon as you’re eligible, you would file for citizenship?  How has it been not having the 10 year GC?  Any problems with employment or DL?  Thanks!

If your goal is citizenship, I'd apply right away. If you prefer getting the GC sooner and don't mind delaying the process, you can wait to apply for naturalization. Not having a GC hasn't had any major issues - have to go to USCIS every six months for an extension, secondary inspection while getting into the US (10-15 minutes), and no problems with employment. In Seattle, most companies are familiar and understanding with immigration. My current company processed my paperwork, as normal, and was able to verify employment eligibility, etc. Absolutely no problem.
