Forgot to update moving address from a year ago! is this a serious issue?

My husband and I got married and he got his green card 2 years ago. Since then, we have moved to a new location (same city and state, just different address), but we didn't realize we were supposed to send in a form of an address change. We moved a year ago now.

Now my husband is up for his 2 year green card renewal and we have to file paperwork in a few weeks. We didn't realize we missed this important step.

Is this a really big issue? What can we do to resolve this? Do we just put in our new address in our files? I'm so nervous, especially with the political climate around immigrants right now. :/

Send the change of address form like right NOW. And then list your new address on your I-751 (which is "removal of conditions"..."renewal" is the I-90 and NOT what you guys need to do...sorry for nitpicking this technicality but it is a very important one). I don't think they "punish" people for not updating addresses properly if they didn't have to send you guys anything important like an RFE. But yes, the new address needs to be officially sent to USCIS on an AR-11 BEFORE you file I-751. USCIS change of address info here.

Ok thanks! I'll file it tonight.

So I have to file both the I-751 AND the I-90 after the address change? We have to apply by september, so I'm glad we caught this now.

No I said the I-90 is different and absolutely NOT what you guys need to do. As it plainly states here, all applicants filing I-751 Removal of Conditions must NOT file I-90. Sorry for nitpicking this technicality. However, some people mistakenly filed I-90 when they SHOULD have filed I-751. This mistake is very costly as the two forms do completely different things. If a 2-year conditional GC holder files I-90 and not I-751, their green card expires and they must appear in immigration court to convince a judge to let them keep their permanent resident status. In that case, good luck to you as it is OUR responsibility to know which forms accomplish what results and to file the correct ones at the correct times.

I-751 allows you to keep your permanent resident status while the form is being adjudicated and until you receive the 10-year GC or you naturalize. ALL (without exception, unless you don't care about living in the US anymore) 2-year GC holders MUST file I-751 90 days before their GC expiration date. I-90 is ONLY for 10-year GC holders who have either lost their GC and need a new one or simply wish to get a new 10-year GC because their current one is expiring and/or they do not wish to naturalize yet.

I'm a LPR. I moved over a year ago and completely did not change my address until I was filing an I-130 for new husband, on Monday. I did create a USCIS account when I was applying for my green card three years ago and I used the address I was planning to move to, and where my entire family uses as a main home address. However, job relocation and circumstances I moved to a different state. I did file the AR-11 form before I submitted our I-130 and I used our new address on the I-130, however, the I-130 notice of receipt still came with my old address. I'm kind of nervous with the legal repercussions thats noted on the form for not filing within 10 days, especially with the current political climate 😔
