They said that it will NOT effect people who are going for LPR or citizenship status. Did you miss that part?

Also, where do you think we're going to get the funds to fully care for people?

This administration is a hot mess, but that doesn't mean I can't have some good opinions about not wanting to spend money we don't have - just like social security.

I only see that it isn't currently affecting them but it can hinder people in the future. The entire article is about affecting immigrants going for green cards or citizenship. Are we not talking about the same thing, here?

Funds - repeal tax cuts to the rich, close loopholes, increase taxes on the corporations, heavily reduce military spending, set up a medicare-for-all system, etc etc. The money is there, it simply needs to be redistributed for the people.

I'm super anxious about this news.

I am currently waiting for my i751 adjustment of status from temporary to permanent to be accepted, I was unemployed for about 3 weeks between jobs once a couple of years ago, my lawyer told me I was entitled as a temporary Green Card holder to file for unemployment which I did.

Will this effect my i751? I was told it wouldn't by lawyers but now it seems this is changing?

I'm so worried.

This sentence and the sentiment behind it is completely against the spirit of being an American. The government works for me, if I disagree with what it is doing I can get angry all I want. As long as I don’t try to violently overthrow it, there is nothing wrong with getting angry at your government and try to change the policy. Regardless of your partisan or nonpartisan opinions, This type of subservient sentiment towards a central government among the populace is what the founding fathers were afraid of and put the safeguards against.

I'm not subservient. Also, you're barking up the wrong tree with me. My great grandmother came to the US in 1921. She was processed through Ellis Island with her mother, two brothers and sister. They lived through the depression and fought hard to make their dream work for them. I am a descendant of immigrants and am incredibly proud. They came the right way, worked for a good life and I am proud of that. Do I think that limiting immigration is a bad thing? No. Trump is incredibly vocal about his own reasons for wanting to limit it, and please rest assured, I do not care for his style of presiding. With that being said, the immigration system does need reform, and perhaps by tightening the reigns they can figure out why it takes just so long for things to get processed. Could it be that they're absolutely swamped by impartial applications? Could have something to do with it.

Until something becomes actual law, I don't see the point in getting people worried about it. Also, laws can and do change. Just ask anyone who was head over heels for the changes made after Barack Obama left office.

I'd like to get a breakdown of exactly how my taxes are used every year like they get in the UK, but I don't. What I do know is that politicians lie, news stations lie, internet forums lie. I doubt we'll see any sort of tax reform in the next six years. :)

What I don't understand is why do you want to make it HARDER for people to naturalize?  When they naturalize they gain the ability to vote and to make more contributions to society vs paying into a system in which they will never see the gains.  Basically because I'm an LPR not a USC, I am paying for someone else's medical expenses, someone else's social security, someone else's everything, but yet I have zero say in where my taxes may or may not go, and are not able to also use those products in which I pay into.

(Just for clarity, it's MY choice to not become a USC at this time, so I don't complain.  I really don't care in all honesty about the fact I can't use medicare and am just using this as an anecdote to prove a point about how others may think or feel. )

I think immigration itself should be harder, not the ability to become a USC.

I believe you nailed it on the head for me. Thank you.

Well you can thank Obama admin for lying to you all then; but it's easier to blame the one enforcing laws. ... man, 6+ more amazing years of Trump.

Already, now I'm out. Can't wait for my inbox and everything to get blown up haha. All right, now I'm officially out of this thread and neither me, nor my immigrant husband will lose any sleep over any of this.

Quoting myself from another thread lol - Saw this this morning and makes me mad. I was on Obamacare before I married my wife and she was on it with me for a year (never used it) until I got health insurance from my new employer.  Preying this will not effects us since we are now applying for removing of conditions for the 10 year green card. In the future once my mum passes on, we are planing to move to England to be with her family for awhile but that will not be for a few more years at least.

Obamacare isn't welfare. I had CHIP Perinatal for two pregnancies as a LPR. Naturalized without any problems.

"They came the right way." Because back then the US took anybody. It was easy to do it the right way. Show up & you're processed and let in. Now, try that as an intending economic migrant and see how that works for you. (Spoiler: it doesn't.)

They had some tests :)

My grandmother refused to talk about it with us when we were kids. She said that it was scary, not knowing if you were going to be let in, but that she did it the right way.

I wonder why I feel so staunchly about it now...
