Hi, I wouldnt mention its a class 5 GDL and see if they just swap it. I had a class 5 GDL license from Alberta Canada and i didnt say anything.. in Illinois i just swapped it.. did a written test and an eye exam and i got my Illinois license. Im sure they noticed GDL on it.. but the GDL rules are very different in the USA than in Canada so as an adult i dont think it mattered.

Every state is different though. Make sure you do this before the Canadian drivers license expires though. Also the expiry date on the US drivers will be another issue. I was only able to get mine up to the date on my i94 and than there was a gap i could not drive. I was able to renew it when i got my work permit. Some states do this differently.

Depends on the state.  Look up the DMV requirements in your state.   For example I easily just switched my license in CO (after fixing my SAVE db) but in CA you have to redo everything.
