Alex Jones incites violence. Do a search and you can find out yourself with in minutes. He also uses hate speech. Both Facebook and Google warned him more than once about it and he kept doing it. This is against their TOS. That is why he was banned.

And by doing this these tech firms are giving Mr. Jones even more exposure and press.  They can do whatever they want, but considering they are entertainment venues, you would think they would want drama to draw people to their platforms.

So what. People are reporting on the bans. That is freedom of speech. Social media should allow people to break TOS because people they ban may get exposure out of it?

 

This has nothing to with them wanting to bring people to their platforms. They have rules.. With Youtube.. 3 strikes and you are out.

In a perfect world Jones would be maligned and ignored. He would be banned from the platforms instead of sitting there like a parasite for years while they turned a blind eye, and no one would look like a hypocrite for finally enforcing their own rules. Unfortunately no one would be talking about this had they just done it years ago.

Do you see VJ as an entertainment platform? Really all forums, blogs, chatrooms and social media aren't really entertainment platforms, but communication platforms. You provide the content and they make money off of you. That's not really what I consider entertainment. I could semi make that argument for MMOs that utilize chatrooms (half entertainment/half communication), but even they generally aggressively police their systems.

I am not really sure what this really has to do with anything but I disagree. Youtube is a communication platform? People may use it to express opinions but not really as a means to communicate. Debate maybe.

It utilizes language and communication. It's a place like any other of the above to verbalize speech, visual media, and viewpoints. It promotes topics of discussion, and promotes a social construct just like the rest. The media is through video, but it has also a very large community in written form via comments, personalities, etc. Some topics of discussion may be entertaining, but ultimately it operates under the same premise as the rest.

Well if you define it that way that many things can be described as a communication and not entertainment. Even if you do describe it as communication what does that mean? The government does not control these companies so it is not a freedom of speech issue.

Nothing? I was simply commenting to another poster in this thread regarding a question they asked? I'm not disagreeing with you. This is certainly not a free speech issue, no matter how much some want to confuse the subject.

Communication is a form of entertainment, and yes, VJ has entertainment value.  As to these sites, sure, they are tools for communication, but that is all and mostly they appear to be entertainment.  In the grand scheme of things they are really just companies wanting to make a buck and are unimportant to our lives.

How are you inferring that I am advocating a free-for-all relative to TOS violations?  Again, so we are clear, these companies can do whatever they want.  My only argument is that the companies are far less important than they think.

I stopped using Facebook, Twitter and the like, I exclusively now use subject focused social media, such as VJ, Armour Forum, GunBroker and Ham Radio, my stress level thanks me

I've never watched more than 2 minutes of AJ that I can recall. Not very familiar with his output minus what I read here on VJ.

 

That aside,  I find the things that SJ said to be pretty offensive and intolerable.  Replace the word "white" with "black" in her comments above and online, and I think most normal humans would be appalled.
