I think its safe to say that someone who saved many hundreds from the gas ovens was probably a decent human and took a big risk in doing what he did . SMH

being a member of the nazi party was pretty much a requirement for anyone in germany back then.  not being a member of the nazi party put one's life at risk, along with their possessions and job.

I believe he was an ardent Nazi to obtain those contracts and access to slave labor, I believe he had an epiphany when he came to the realization of what was actually happening and he had the Jewish right hand man to haunt his conscience. 

 

My entire knowledge however is multiple viewings of the movie, so perhaps his goodness/badness to me is a result of his portrayal in the film
