Passport had to be renewed before Interview

Hi, in my CR1, all is going fine, we submitted Police Clearance Certificate from local Police Station, for which NVC said get the same from regional passport office (India).

I went to get that, they said before that, I need to get new passport to get my spouse's name on it, & only after that they will issue Police Clearance Certificate.

Now, the question is, NVC & all have my passport 1 details, whereas in actual my passport issuing authority has cancelled that (& returned it to me) & issued a new one (passport 2) with spouse's name on it.

Should I inform NVC about this passport change? ( I have both passports, & new one has a reference to old one). Or should I just attend interview & there they can update my info?

If you are submitting anything to NVC or filling in DS 260, then use your new passport details otherwise just bring both passport during the interview and they will use your new passport to update your info in their system.

Do they basically make you take your spouse's name?

No, the thing is although not printed on passport, but they record one's marital status in their database, so on of single/married/divorced/widowed.

On my first passport I was single as per their records, & when now I asked them to give me PCC, again in the application there was a field asking for that status, I filled in Married correctly. Upon seeing that, they objected that unless & until I get an updated passport, I can't get PCC. So my name is same, justy spouse's name is also now printed on my passport under heading "Spouse Name".

Indian passport has this strange notion that it lists info on two pages. We call it first last. First page has standard info like any other passport i.e. photo, name, dob, issue, expiry, nationality, etc etc. Last page of passport has Your father's name, then mother's name, then spouse's name, then your permanent address in full, & lastly your any last passport number if you had before this one. Please google "indian passport last page image" for a sample

Few years ago, in 90s, I saw my mother's passport where she had to get her kids too listed on mother's passport, although that used to enable kids to travel without having own passports but always need to be accompanied by mother.

Ok, thanks, you confirmed what I found. Thanks a lot, I have already filled in all forms, & will just carry both passports to interview.

What if I will change my last name on my spouse's name after the interview is scheduled and I will have a new name for everything? Will this be a problem? Or should I just take new documents with translations and everything to the interview?
