Yeah we really just trying to find the best time for her to resign is all as she says she can't put in an immediate resignation as she plans to come here as soon as she has the visa. She doesn't want to wait another 30 days.

My comment was not directed at you but the other poster sorry. I am in InfoSec myself.

As soon as she gets the approval then she can leave anytime since she does not work for the government then she can leave anytime.

The only people that have a waiting period are those that worked or work for the Philippines government.

Exactly your company may require it but it is not officially required by anybody unless you work for the government. So you can come and go as you please.

As I said before as soon as she has the visa and CFO complete then she can leave anytime.

^^This 100%. Also, Rule #1: Don't make any concrete decisions until the approved visa is in hand.

Agree. I placed in my resignation letter after my interview (after I was informed that my visa has been approved).

Even so, I thought I had enough time... only to realized that 2 weeks is a lot less time to wrap up my life back in Philippines.

Saying goodbye to my workmates, my friends and my family... decide which things needs to go and which things I can carry with me... all took time.

Bottom line, spending extra days in PH after getting the visa isn't too bad. After all, the visa is valid for 6 months after Medical Exam/Interview whichever comes first.

I'm done my immigration stuff now and am a US citizen and what I learned doing all that is

1) people want to rush everything and do things the exact moment they become eligible you see it here everyday and I get it the waiting is hard and you just want to get there..but

2) This is government employees you are dealing with and timelines are a good base average but not set in stone what may take 1 person a month may take another 3 months with no explaination guess

Some are just saying use caution but your responses seem to indicate you 2 have already decided just because an interview may be e0 days away doesn't mean your visa will be there waiting at that interview

Yeah I caught that after I submitted the post my bad.  I know infosec stuff cool.

So we are really just trying to figure out how long after we get the NOA2 approval will it be to get our NVC case number to start scheduling the medical exam, GCP, and the interview.  She is 100% sure she can get her job back anytime after resigning so we are not worried about that.  She does insist though that she should give 30 days still despite not working for the government.

She has 6 months from medical to move. Plenty of time to resign etc.

That said, I put in my notice at work and my apt the month I got my interview date. Like your fiancee I could have easily gotten my job back and cancelled the move out.

Yeah we know she will have 6 months to come here once she has the visa.  She and I are just ready now as we are ready to start our lives together as soon as possible. I guess we will just play things by ear and see how it goes. Thanks.

Typical timeline is 2-4 weeks from NOA2 to NVC then another 2-4 Weeks from NVC to embassy and then another 4 weeks to complete everything and get a schedule for the visa. This is a very rough estimate based on previous post from 4 different months (NOA2 to NVC for April May June July 2018). Your mileage may vary.

My 2 cents is give notice when you receive your approval at the interview. Then it will be about 10 days to get your visa so 3 weeks after that your on the plane.

Now my free advice is quit when you want and don't worry about a notice. It's not like she is coming back to work for these people. Besides company's never give you a notice that you no longer have a job.

My fiance' and I was wondering if she should put in her resignation for her job once we have the NOA 2 approval?  She was told she needed to provide a one month notice upon resigning.  I was looking at some timelines and it seems like we may be able to do the interview around 1 month after NOA2?  I was just curious if you think this is a good time frame or if she should wait later to resign?

You can easily be done with the visa process in 4-5 weeks, once you get your MNL # from NVC   (not from when you get your NOA2)

After receiving your NOA2 it can be another month before you have your MNL #

I’m also waiting for the NOA 2. Here in the Philippines, they always require us to render for at least 30 days. What does she do for a living? I would highly recommend that she give her resignation letter once you have the visa. We might not know what will happen. Just be cautious

Thanks Hank for the clarification.  That's what we were trying to figure out.  So in our case it may be best to wait until we have at least the MNL # before she puts in her resignation.

I couldn't agree anymore with you Hank.  America use to have a lot of these values and it seems we have lost them. I think it is very courteous and respectful to give them the 30 day notice like they requested even if she does never go back and work there again.  It is  very important to her that she does that as they have been good to her there and I can fully understand that.

My reference to the 3 weeks is first she is approved for the visa (one week from approval to having visa in hand) then another 3 weeks that will bring you to the end of her 30 day notice thus totaling 30 days.

Yeah we know she will have 6 months to come here once she has the visa.  She and I are just ready now as we are ready to start our lives together as soon as possible. I guess we will just play things by ear and see how it goes. Thanks.

Thanks this is what we were looking for a timeline estimating on how long things may take.  Any reason why you think it will take 3 weeks after getting the visa to get on the plane?  She can't get on the plane as soon as she has the visa?

It is not just about the timing of the NOA2 to the interview. She could have the interview and get put into Administrative Processing (AP). AP has a indefinite timeline. Theoretically (and I'm hoping it won't happen to her), she could be placed in AP for months. Or what if something comes up in the medical. We have seen cases of false positives for TB from PHL.

There are just too many variables that could come into play here. There is no reason for her to do everything beforehand. Many people want to jump right on the plane after they have their interview. My now wife didn't fly out until over a month after she received her visa so she could have time to finalize things. her job threw here a big going away party and everything. She used her last pay to have money for her trip here and give to her mother.
