01/25/2018 – NOA1 new website

08/24/2018 – submitted online inquiry, one day out of normal processing times, received request ID number, "expect reply by Sept. 15th"

08/27/2018 – called USCIS and spoke to Tier 2, "still not very far out of processing time", "wait until Sept. 15th, when inquiry is complete"

08/27/2018 – submitted online request to USCIS Ombudsman online – received e-mail acknowledgement "will contact me if able to help"

08/28/2018 – contacted my US senator using Greenbaum's links – filled out online form – printed form and mailed it to address provided

08/29/2018 – contacted my US representative using Greenbaum's links – was simple online form, which was submitted online, no receipt

09/04/2018 – called USCIS and spoke to Tier 1, "everything looks fine", "no negative decision or impact", "please wait for result of inquiry..."

Β

09/04/2018 – received response today from Ombudsman:

Β

Quote

Dear Sir or Madam,
Thank you for contacting the Ombudsman’s Office.Β  We have reviewed your request for case assistance. Β

While we understand your concerns, our review indicates that your case is within normal processing times as posted on the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) website at https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/. Because your case is currently within normal processing times, our office will be closing this matter.

If USCIS' Case Inquiry Date has passed your receipt date (or if there is no processing time for your form type listed on the USCIS website, but your submission has been pending for longer than six months) you may reply to this email and ask us to reopen your request with the Ombudsman's Office.Β  Please provide evidence demonstrating your attempt to resolve the matter with USCIS directly.Β  You may contact USCIS 1) by phone at 1-800-375-5283; 2) through an online case inquiry to make a service request (also referred to as a β€œSRMT”) at https://egov.uscis.gov/e-request/displayONPTForm.do?entryPoint=init&sroPageType=onpt; or 3) through an InfoPass appointment https://my.uscis.gov/appointment.

...

If you think our assessment that your case is within processing times is incorrect, please respond with an explanation; we may reconsider our decision to close this matter.

Sincerely, Β
Office of the Citizenship and Immigration Services Ombudsman

Β

This is of course nonsense, because we are outside of normal processing times, confirmed by my discussion with the USCIS Tier 1 this morning and the USCIS website. I will sleep on this one a few nights, but definitely respond and continue to ask for support.

If you don't get after it, I have the feeling that they let you sit...

Β

OK, hope this is helpful for someone here, @SilverMonk

Β

open possibilities:

-schedule infopass meeting with immigration officer

-appeal response from Ombudsman

I didn't have a lot of success with the Tier 2, he seemed more in a hurry, and mainly wanted to make it clear that I should wait longer before I call, at least until the inquiry is answered...my opinion.

Β

On the other hand I've read that some Tier 1's actually make a big effort to provide more information, have more time, and even if they don't know as much, try harder, and know something.

Β

At the end, I'll call back every so often, and if I wouldn't have had a bunch of morning meetings today, I would have had a Tier 2 call me back, I guess that was the main motive. πŸ™‚
