Question: Past mental health problems

Hi!

 

I am wondering how likely I would be to pass the medical and interview given my past, or if any of you have experienced something similar and what your outcome was?:

 

9 years ago as a teenager I attempted suicide and ended up in hospital for psychiatric care for a week, I was discharged with a low risk of suicide after numerous psychiatrist appointments. At the time I was abusing alcohol and marijuana and was not coping with stress in my life well. I was only a minor (under the age of 16) when this happened.

 

I have been drug free for 8.5 years and do not abuse alcohol, I have stable employment, am mentally stable and have had no suicide attempts since. I would be able to get great character references and clean drug tests for the medical. I will also get my doctor to review my medical history and get a letter stating I'm not a harm to myself or others, and that I am not a drug user. I also do not have a criminal history.

 

I'm so worried this will be the reason I can't be with my partner.

 

I am from Australia.

The medical exam may require that you go through a psychological evaluation to ensure that you are not a danger to yourself or others.

The past drug use may involve a ban to ensure you are still clean. You must be honest at all time with the medical and CO.

If your past usage involved a criminal history with drugs, this may be an issue, possibly involving requiring a waiver.

Thank you, I don't have a criminal history, does this mean I wont need to worry about the waiver part?

I don't know your whole situation, but no criminal history means no reason for a waiver for a criminal inadmissibility.
