Is this "service person" charging your MIL? If so, be careful with that. Many people take advantage of people not knowing the process.

A visitor visa application process should be no more than $160. And that is for the filing fee. And the application can be done online. In fact, you could fill out the application for your MIL without a need for a "service person".

And even if you provide her with the invitation letter, it is not possible for her to upload it when she applies. It will be with her when she goes to the interview where the CO will have no interest in looking at it.

Anyway, you can draft up a letter stating the dates she will be ataying with you and what you plan on doing while ahe is here, I guess.

Thanks for the info NuestraUnion!   I don't know what the service person will help with, but at the moment it's been tough timewise for me.  And I don't want to blamed for her not getting the Visa, even though after all the tips you guys have given us, that we're not the ones that will affect the decision.  People over in Vietnam always listen to other people, even though we've said that you don't need a letter, that what matters is your ties to the country.

thanks for the tip on the letter, we'll just write one and email it.  like you guys said, they probably won't even look at it.

I think the visa agent charged my MIL $100 odd dollars.

As for where the useless documents go - basically put it in an organized binder to give to the CO who prob never asks for it.

The agent also completes the online DS260 and MIL provides all the info and coaches the client. Also she goes to the consulate and takes care of transport r/t for the client.

Anyways just do as your told no matter how ridiculous it seems. The alternative won’t be very beneficial to your relationship.

cool thanks Cyclone.  Yeah that's the other part that I can't really help with, taking her to the CO or explaining things to her.  I figure these agents already assisted so many, at least they have an idea what documents are needed, I don't even know what a Ho Khau and stuff looks like to even ask her to organize it.
