Well the woman from the article wasn't a child. She crosses illegaly TWICE, even paid a smugglers to help her pass. And she claimed to be USC.

If she was brought here as an infant or baby then the story would be somehow different, even though she still would be required to fix her status after the marriage.

But here is the fact that she was fully aware of that she was doing and only after she got caught she started regretting it.

oh absolutely! I'm on your side here!

So how did she have a driver's license? I know California has recently started granting driver licenses to illegals but in 2011 was Florida doing that too? Or do we add "driving without a license" to her list of crimes? Any bets she was working too.

This gets me so angry on many levels. She has been living here illegally for 18 years. If she'd been shoplifting from Walmart repeatedly over the last 18 years and finally got caught and was sent to prison, would anyone be blaming Trump or screaming "injustice" then? My husband broke the law in the 1990s and went to prison. He was living with his then-girlfriend at the time and her child from a previous relationship. He had been with the mother since the child was 6 months old. He was 8 when my husband was arrested and called him "daddy" - he had never known his birth father. My husband wasn't spared prison because he had a child at home. The family was broken up and my husband was packed off to prison (and rightfully so) and because he wasn't on the child's birth certificate the child was not allowed to visit him. Do you think any journalists were taking up that child's story how he was torn away from the only father he knew through no fault of the child's? The mother couldn't cope and in the end the child was placed in foster care and subsequently adopted. Because my husband was not married to the mother and not the child's father he was not allowed to know of his whereabouts. My husband still cries about this to this very day. And he's still looking for him because he wants to tell him he's sorry for what happened and never stopped loving him.

Adults, including parents, who make poor choices in life should expect to have their children taken from them. It happens all the time.

And I'm done with the military thinking they are above the law. Many jobs involve taking huge risks for the benefit of the rest of us - mining, fishing, pilots, flaggers, construction, trucking, firefighting, police, coastguard, ....

Thank you so much for sharing your story!  So many people don’t get it. Like you said, people that make poor choices in life should expect to have their children taken away. What about the word illegal don’t people understand?  She had so many opportunities to do it right. Why didn’t she?

i wonder if maybe they were putting off AOS (until the traffic stop incident forced their hand) because of the prior illegal entries / deportation orders on her record. i think maybe that's what put them off (not that i agree or condone it) but it could explain why. and then they also had the misconception that being married to a USC, and a military man at that, practically made her "untouchable". smh.

I don't care much about the story, it's journalists trying to attract attention and it's not as bad as the actual fake news out there (like Pizzagate). What I don't understand is the cult of military people. Why is it considered a good thing to serve in the military to the point where people think that military spouses might get special treatment? Especially serving in the US military when the US is involved in so many pointless wars and it's different from say, soviet soldiers defending their country from the nazis. Of course, not every soldier has done something that takes an innocent person's life but they're all part of a system whose main purpose is to kill foreigners and it also accepts casualties. It's not a noble job.

Advice for children, wild teenagers, and people skirting immigration legality:  Actions have consequences.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Actually, she messed up so badly, she had/has no path to ever becoming a legal resident.  She likely became ineligible under 9C with her second entry into the US (assuming she entered without inspection).  This would make her permanently ineligible, with no waiver possible until she had been outside the US for 10 years.  Then, she did the worst possible thing by claiming US citizenship to re-enter the US the last time.  That's a permanent ineligibility, with no waiver ever possible.  She has no chance to become an LPR, even as a military spouse.  (I'm not saying this to appear to support her remaining illegally in the US or not being deported -- just an opportunity to share how badly she messed up and now must live with the consequences no matter how the press reports it.)

Stupidity should be painful.

Nah those were comments on Facebook where i posted under that article. I actually ended up deleting my post there because bullying was bad. ;) I don't mind heated discussions but there wasn't much point talking to people over there. But thank you!

Unfortunately that "I deserve better" attitude is common among military spouses. And I see it first handed. Basically women thinking they are special and their while life is a sacrifice because they married a soldier. And based on that they need to be treated better than others. There is already so many benefits for spouses and military members... even when it comes to immigration, spouses can expedite naturalization and stuff. But actually being above the law should not be a benefit. No matter who you marry.

I'm certainly no fan of Trump, but this is ridiculous. Nobody is above the law. This was entirely on their own necks...they had a legal path available that they just ignored until they got caught.

Out of curiosity: they could have filed I-130 & I-601A, correct? Then if it was approved, go to Juarez for medical & interview?

I'm a servicemember, me and my fiancee had to wait in line like everyone else (waited 8.2 months for NOA2 and currently have our NVC case number). Military folks and dependents are actually scrutinized even more due to their sensitive job positions. Military ran all kinds of separate background checks on my fiancee due to my job, even after the USCIS security checks

So I don't feel sorry for those who break the law. Imagine how much faster the visa process would be if all the sham and fraud marriages weren't allowed to file.

The administration is cracking down on illegal immigration, not legal immigration. So I support them 100%
