A March K-1 AOS filer, @momofboys2018, just successfully expedited EAD based on financial hardship - read here.  I agree it's a hard sell based on the I-864 evidence you had to provide, but apparently it's doable.

I am a firm believer if in doubt expedite, no downside applying.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

He does not have a bank account since the banks will not allow him to open an account without proof of employment, so I cannot provide a statement as evidence. If I provide mine, it will show that I am just barely covering my expenses, but it might not be enough to qualify for financial distress.

Doesn't flyi

my husband was still in Morocco when i added  him to bank account using his ITIN

he is here

all he needs is SS #

Financial struggles? Didn't he know he couldn't work upon arrival? If this was a basis for an expedite, every K-1 visa holder would do it.

There are certainly exceptions for changes in circumstances, such as unpredictable expenses that may pop up (i.e. medical injuries and such).

I concur...get a job offer first for an increased chance of success. Even that expedite is backlogged right now, but it is a more traveled path.

Too late for the OP now but this is useful information for those currently considering the K-1. This is the reality of it. Months without work and the financial struggle that leads to. This is the main reason we opted not to do the K-1.

Food for thought for those starting out with the process.

OP, please keep us updated how the expedite request goes for the benefit of others in the same situation.

Totally makes sense. Do you know what the estimated processing time is between USCIS receiving a job offer and formal work authorization being granted?

I would think EAD is very soon coming, given he filed back in March. Check your local USCIS for estimated processing times. Better yet, call them if you’re out of processing times. We called twice while waiting for EAD and after the second call EAD was approved within a couple of days. Coincidence?  Probably. Good luck!
