Employment End Date

Example Problem # 1 (I-129F question 16.b)

We’ll start easy. Here’s example problem # 1 in the I-129F form. Look at the I-129F form Page 2, question 16.b. It asks you to provide your work history in the last 5 years. Seems simple enough.

Form I-129F question 16.b asks about the US petitioner’s employment history. What if you currently work here?

The last part asks you to input the “employment end date”. Meaning, when did you leave this employer?

However, there’s no way to say that you currently work with this employer — which is the situation for MOST of us. We all currently work for an employer. You can try to type in the word “present”. But, you’ll get an error message because the PDF only accepts a date.

Now, you may ask “what if we just write today’s date?” Well, you don’t want to do that because they’ll misinterpret that today was your final day with your employer.

How about leaving this field blank? It makes me a bit uncomfortable to do that. It feels like you’re avoiding answering. There may be a chance you’ll get delayed by an RFE asking you to fill this form out again. We don’t want to risk that. So, what do we do? How do you tell them you currently work for this employer?

I found this on the internet. What do I put if I currently still work here?

Yes. It will only take numbers

If you don't want to hand write it follow these steps in Adobe Acrobat reader:

·         Click “Edit” on the tool bar

·         Then "Preferences"

·         Click on "JavaScript" on the left hand side

·         Then uncheck "Enable Acrobat JavaScript"

·         Then hit ok

Now you can type PRESENT in that box.

Well if you read the instructions it says if a question does not apply then you leave it blank. So you do not have an end date so you leave it blank. The answer to 99 percent of the questions asked on this site are in the instructions.

The example form here on visa journey shows to type PRESENT. So I guess that is what most people do. That is what I did.

The instructions now say to put N/A so my advice was incorrect.

It is standard protocol and widely-known that a blank "employment end date" means you are at that job currently.

Btw, I did not fill out any employment info whatsoever and got approved for my EAD/AP in a timely fashion.

The chance you would get an RFE for leaving an employment end date blank is exactly 0.00000%. Don't worry so much.
