Oh god.... so I'm still in Turkey with my honey. I have 4 nights left. I've been here almost 6 weeks 😍

Disaster strikes!!!

First, When filling out our petition I said that my fiancé has never applied for a U.S. visa.

Well, we were going over some paperwork together and we came across some sample questions for interview time. Reading them together, one was "has the beneficiary ever applied for a U.S. visa.?" Apparently About 8 or 9 years ago some friends and him applied for the lottery or workers "green card" - whatever it was - while they were in some cyber cafe.  He paid money. He never knew the outcome and thinks it was fake but there is no way we want to take that chance with our government. I don't want them to think I am in the dark about this or that we are trying to lie.

I took responsibility for pretty much the ENTIRE petition and I NEVER even asked him that question. I just assumed it was a no so I marked no!

I feel like such a dumb@$$$ 😣

Please, I don't know what to do. We in no way want to lie.

How bad is this?!

What should we do!

I don't think that entering the Lottery is considered applying for a visa.  You only 'apply' once you have been selected.  But I could be wrong so perhaps wait for wiser heads.

Thank you for your response. I will wait for some long-timers to show up and shout at me - rightfully so - for my absolutely Ignorant mistake.

Really.... I am beside myself.

I agree this sounds more like the DV lottery to me as well. I would only be concerned if he was ever selected for it and then had to do the processing for it. But if asked this question do not lie about it but just say that the you(the petitioner) did not know about this previously and forgot to include it on the application.

"applying" for a lottery does not mean "applying" for visa. If he filled out a visa application, submitted it, paid for it and etc. then you should yes. If not then not.

That's the thing - he can't even remember what the website was. He said it was not a government site. I will grill him more when he gets home from work. He did pay money. I'm not sure if he electronically signed something or..... if it was an online petition he filled out. But 8 or 9 years ago, not sure if they had authentic online filing system then.

Ok, I'm guessing he went through one of those sites that say they can help you win the lottery.  Unless he was selected and formally submitted an application (DS260 form, although I think it was the DS230 back then), he hasn't applied for a visa.

There are many agencies that ask money to file the Lottery for you, just like there are lawyers that help you file for a K1. Trust me, if he was selected for a DV visa he'd know. ^_^

It might be one of those sites that will "help you get a US visa for cash" that is rampant in many parts of the world. How they always promise a visa for cash but few deliver on that promise.

OH god I hope you are right. This process is so hard. It really tries a relationship more so than anyone knows who hasn't not lived through it.

We don't need this on top of it!

I concur on both these points.

He didn't do it through an official USCIS website, sounds like he got caught up in one of the scam sites.

He wasn't actually selected and then went through the process.
