Removed from apartment

First of all, apologies if this does not go in here, I couldn't find anything related to housing.

 

Yesterday we got a notice to vacate our apartment in 30 days, without any reason. I believe they can to that as we are on a month to month lease basis but a couple of months before we got a notice that our rent will be raised $25, but now we can see our apartment is listed for $100!

We are lost on what to do, I just moved from overseas, and got everything ready just last week. My SO has been living here almost a year, she talked to the "keeper" and he does not have any problem with us. We just called the manager and she says she just "wants to end the relationship" not wanting to give us any cause. I believe it is because I'm living here, is there anything we can do?

This is not the forum for it as this is not related to immigration. However, if you don’t have a contract with the landlord stating the length of your stay they can pretty much do whatever. If you have a contract check the guidelines and move accordingly. If not then the best you can do is find another place ASAP.

As @TNJ17 said, a month to month lease isn't a permanent type thing. When you moved in also, did you get added to the lease as a tenant? If not that alone could cause a breach of the lease which can result in the landlord being able to evict.

Best course of action:  Find a new apartment.  In most states, a month-to-month can be terminated by either party with written notice (30 days in some areas).  The only thing you could do is to convince the landlord to continue the relationship.

If you were otherwise in good terms, you might be able to ask them to move out at a later date. Look up the rights and duties off landlords and tenants in your state.
