HELP!!!

My wife entered the United States on April 19, 2018, We had an amazing wedding the end of June (30th).  We went to the Social Security Administration office on July 26th to get my wife a SSN after we received the Marriage Certificate and I was able to get off work; this way we could get her married name on her SSN.  I didn't realize the Admit Until Date is also considered an Expiration Date for SSA, I thought she had to be in the country and married within 90 Days.  Because the ADMIT DATE on the I-94 was 07/17/2018 the Social Security Administration would not issue her a SSN because they are saying the I-94 is expired.  I can't add her to my checking account, I can't add her as my beneficiary in case I die without a SSN.  Can anyone advised what type of document I need to request and who I need to request it from?  I don't want to wait another 6 months until she gets a Green Card to get her a Social Security Number!  I am in Law Enforcement, anything is possible and I want her to be taken care of financially if something happens to me.  Thank you in advance!!!!

Sorry as of right now there is nothing you can do to get her a SSN at all until she at least has her AP/EAD card. This is the biggest reason why I tell people to get a SSN as soon as they come into the country and not wait.

I would suggest to apply for a ITIN right now to add her to your checking account. Also please file for AOS ASAP.

It might be worth investigating if you really need her SSN to add her.  In my experience, banks and other institutions will ask for the SSN by default, buy they can sometimes do without one if the person hasn’t been issued a SSN or isn’t eligible for one.

This.

Your beneficiary could be living outside of the USA, they do not need a SSN to be added.

You shouldn't need an SSN in order to add your spouse as your beneficiary.

Some banks don't require an SSN to add someone to an account; however, many do. If this is a high necessity for you, research banks that don't require this and will use other forms of identification for adding a signer to an account.

As for the SSN itself - to my knowledge, if the I-94 is expired, there is nothing you can do. Just file the applications for the AP/EAD/AOS as soon as possible. AP/EAD does not cost extra when filed with AOS, and I believe SSN can be assigned at the AP/EAD stage, not necessarily when the green card is issued.

Håll ut, y'all.
