I am confused regarding how to respond to this question. I am a US citizen. I am simultaneously submitting applications for my wife and my two step children (my wife's children from a previous marriage). Before this I have only submitted petitions for myself (N-400, I-485), and have never submitted any immigration petition for anyone else. Do I need to answer this as Yes or No in my wife and step-children's I-130 forms?

The answer is NO since you have never filed any previous petition for anyone before now

Thank you!

I have a follow up question - on page 6, when filling out my wife's information in  "Information about beneficiary family", in the "Relationship" field, for my information I will put SPOUSE, and for my wife's son and daughter's information (my step children) I will put SON and DAUGHTER respectively. is that ok, or do I need to fill out the field from my wife's perspective - ie put MOTHER and MOTHER for  the relationship field my two step children?

Or do I need to put gender neutral CHILD and CHILD for both children? I think  I'm tying myself in knots here 🙂

You are over thinking it.  On my petition my husband put himself and then my daughter.  You can write child if you choose. It really doesnt matter.

You are doing a separate petition for each person right? There are no derivatives for CR1/IR1.
