So confused about household size...

I may need a joint sponsor since I may not be living in US during this CR1 process. The joint sponsor is a married head of household with a son over 21. He is not claimed as a dependent. He has his own job, car, etc but lives at home w parents.

So would this be considered a household of 4 or 5? (Including the beneficiary and myself)

On the other hand, if that same adult son were my joint sponsor would the household be considered 3?

TIA

Btw, you are not considered as part of household unless they claim you on their tax returns as a dependent. Household size for co-sponsorship is however many people they claim as dependents plus beneficiary.

How many people do they claim as dependents on tax returns? That’s what the household will be.

Married head of household claimed 2 for 2017 taxes. 3 for 2016 taxes because son was a student.

Adult son I presume filed as single.

This is not correct GENERALLY as unmarried children under 21 count no matter where they live and which parent claims them as a dependent.

It sounds like this case is a household of three, the couple and the intending immigrant.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...

Just whoever is claimed as dependent plus beneficiary and the co-sponsor of course.

Yes, for example if the married head of household is the co sponsor,  him & wife plus beneficiary is 3 and if the son is the co sponsor him plus beneficiary is 2
