Buying Plane tickets

Hey,

i was curious its actually cheaper to buy a return ticket than it is to buy a one way ticket to the US. Am I allowed to buy a return ticket once my visa is approved when I move there or does it have to be a one way ticket? Even when I don’t plan on taking the return ticket?

Thanks,

Sophie

Hello Sophie. Usually one ways are less expensive. And, of course, I hope when you arrive you do not plan to go back anytime soon. When the time comes to take a trip back, round trip !! (PS. You can buy whatever you want )

Sometimes you can get a better deal on a round trip depending on how far out you are buying. I'm going to be shopping soon myself I hope if interview goes well, and will buy a round trip ticket if it is cheaper, and set the return as far out as possible then cancel the return leg of the trip. But normally once Visa is in hand you want to be together ASAP, so on a short notice booking one way will be cheaper most of the time.

Here on a K1? Need married and a Certificate in hand within a few hours? I'm here to help. Come to Vegas and I'll marry you Vegas style!!   Visa Journey members are always FREE for my services. I know the costs involved in this whole game of immigration, and if I can save you some money I will!

Sometimes roundtrip is cheaper:

Otherwise buy one way.

It was much cheaper to get a return when I was buying my ticket, the agent found the furthest date and cheapest return as I wasn't going to use it.

Not had a problem coming in with a return but others have had issues at AOS so it's advised to make sure you cancel the return leg :)

Everything crossed for a smooth and stress free journey

There is an amazing deals right now, my interview is the 21st of August so I’ve been shopping looking at booking end of September as I have a lot of stuff here to finalise before I leave

The Qantas deals have been very good recently...  we have a USD 1000 return DFW to MEL in August!

Qantas International  is one of the few carriers who still price their return at significantly lower than the one way x  2.. So  book whatever you want.. you can travel on a return and cancel the return leg after arriving...or book the return leg for as late as you can, or around a time you might possibly want to travel back there..  but it will always leave you with a one way leg at some point.😁

As you are using a spouse visa, adjustment of status AOS  isn't neded..

That should work out pretty good. I use Skyscanner, or Google to track flights and they will send you notifications when prices go up and down. It takes a few days to get a feel for what is a good deal, and then when you go to actually buy, you have an idea of a good price to shoot for. Set up some dates on Google flights now and start watching them. Just today my one way went from 503 to 541, not good, but I'm sure it will drop again because I'm planning a November purchase even though my fiancee should have Visa end of August early September. That gives her a few months to finalize things, and me a few months to shop ticket prices.

With an immigrant visa, it does not matter whether the ticket is round trip or one way.  Do as you see fit.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...

In every single case, I found round trip to be cheaper than one way. I will be buying round trip for my wife and we will just not use the return part. Simple as that.

It is recommended that you buy a round trip ticket because it generally is cheaper.  The important thing is when you get to the USA make sure you cancel the return leg of the ticket.  If not the US government might think you flew back.  david
